Everything has downloaded fine. Maps are where they should be - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NTU 2020.20.gmap which is a hidden folder in Win10.

I have been onto Garmin, and followed their instructions - i.e. unlock via IE(!!) run as admin using the Gamin Communicator. All seems well and the message "Successfully unlocked map(s) for device." appears as expected in green.

However, the map is only unlocked for Basecamp when run as admin, and of course none of my personal destinations are listed.

If I load Basecamp as a regular user (i.e. not an admin), the map remains locked but all my personal destinations are listed.

There seems to be a permissions issue but I can't figure it out. Neither, so far, can Garmin Support.

I considering completely removing and re-installing everything and doing a factory reset on the Nuvi 2548 after backing up the personal destinations (aka Favourites) but I'm not convinced that'll solve it.

Windows 10 was a clean install about January this year, 2019.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
John

If you are not going to run your Win10 as an Admin user then lookup the 'take ownership' feature.

I had loads of data folders I couldn't access until I 'took ownership' of them, and I am running as admin

No joy.

Loaded the script, ran it for the map folder, unlock reported successful using IE and the Communicator, but map still locked.

The map folder seemed to be fully accessible without use of the Take Ownership script.....

As a work around, I made a backup of the Favourites as a User and then Restored them when using BaseCamp as an Admin. Something in Basecamp is restricting access.

Many thanks.

I would run the download again.

(You shouldn't have to unlock online; it sounds like your download might be short of its unlock code).

I had trouble with mine this time. Express reported the download was complete, but the map wasn't installed in Basecamp and some gmap files were missing, so I downloaded again and all was well.

Dales.

I'll try again but it is unlocked IF Basecamp is run as Admin.

If I download as a non-admin user, the Admin password is asked for, and the map is locked for a non-admin user.

I uninstalled Basecamp and Map 2020.20. Ran a Registry Cleaner and rebooted.

Reiinstalled Basecamp, re-installed the map to the Nuvi and to the PC - to the default folder "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator Europe NTU 2020.20.gmap"

The map is still locked.

Maybe I should install the map to a User folder?

I'm at a loss as to the next move. Hopefully Garmin support can resolve it. I hope to hear from them tomorrow as I don't they work over the weekend.

On my computer, in C:/Users/myusername/AppData/Roaming/Garmin/Maps, is a list of my Garmin unlock codes, each in the form of a long character string and a .gma extension.

The code dated yesterday (my download date) matches the code shown in Basecamp - Unlock Regions for the 2020.20 map.

If you have such an unlock code in your AppData, you could try "Add"ing it in Unlock Regions.
If you don't have such an unlock code, then it would seem that there is something your download should have provided and didn't.

Dales

PS my maps are installed precisely where yours are, and I run Basecamp as a normal user, not Admin.
My map downloads always install themselves as unlocked, and I do not have to go online to unlock anything.

Bonus points to Dales!

The file in question was in the User/Admin/Appdata/.....

I moved it to my User/Username/Appdata... and bingo!!!

Thank you! I owe you a beer!

Only mystery is why it got there in the first place, so as to avoid doing the same thing next time.

I've no idea except the fact I had enter the Admin password for the downloads was a clue. I wonder if there's a registry hack to change it.

At least I know what to do next time.

An aside:

I've just had to update GE via my admin account because of error messages when updating as a User.

I've also had TWinUI re-sets across all accounts - which I've sorted out out. The TwinUI err or seems very common since the last Win10 update.

I wondered if they're linked...
