Hi,

I'm after some advice my 6200 died on the way home last night and even after charging for 4 hours at home with original cable the screen remains black so I suspect the battery.

Over a year old so out of warranty, suspect a TT repair will be extortionate but I could try an independent UK repair specialist....any recommendations here?

There are plenty of videos for 6000/6100 battery replacement but I think the 6200 is different design and can't easily find replacement battery on web without going to a US site and paying over 70$.

I do 800-1000 miles most weeks so buying a new sat nav isn't a problem and I do have an old 6100 I can bring out of retirement short term though it is painfully slow.

If the 6200 was newer and there wasn't a chance of TT releasing a new high end sat nav in the near future I'd go out and buy one straight away especially as Halfords have a good deal at moment £270.

I'd be pretty annoyed if they released a 6300 for example a few weeks after getting a new one.I only say this as I think the 6200 has been out a few years already.

My question (eventually) and I realise it's subjective is TT traffic still superior to Garmin?

I quite like the idea of a Garmin and having speed cameras integrated rather than running CamerAlert on my phone as I do currently but to me good quality traffic information is the number one priority followed closely by quality of routing.

Thank you in advance, Brucey

There is not much difference between the TomTom Traffic and the Garmin traffic, both are good most of the time.

There is a significant difference between the TomTom routing and the Garmin routing in areas of the country where there are lots of small narrow lanes. The Garmin devices often choose these little narrow lanes where the TomTom devices tend to stick to more major roads.

As a somewhat cycnical person, I'd have concerns about holding off from a cheap new 6200 in hope of a new 6300. There's surely bound to be one soon, but remember (unless you're too young to remember) TT used to make really good satnavs before they started to improve them! The devil you know, etc.

Thanks both.

6100 back in car with Brodit mount swapped over as an interim fix.

Found a UK company in Halesworth that could potentially fix for about £30 so will give that a go initially.

Had my first TomTom in 2004 so remember the good old days and functionality but CamerAlert in tandem with 6200 serves me pretty well.

suggest you log it with TomTom as the Go 6200 came with a 2 year warranty not 1 year, they will also pay the postage for shipping/returning

Can’t explain this but it came back to life after mains charging for 5 hours over weekend and wiping gold contact pins with lens wipe (alcohol).

Battery charging and can run on battery for around a hour.

2 days and 500 miles later it’s still working so no claim at moment. Appreciate you taking time to reply.
