I think you're going to struggle to find a modern dashcam that takes full size cards.

I also keep my footage but with multi Tb drives that's not a problem.

I've only got one 128gb card. It usually starts overwriting before I get home!

Yes, I think that your'e right. That's why I'm going to get the RoadHawk HD-2s repaired.

RoadHawk have a new HD-3 that will be released at some point - although we've been waiting some time. I believe that the HD-3 will still take a full sized SD card. Hopefully it will not be susceptible to problematic cards.

The HD-2 films in HD (1080) and even at the highest quality bit rate I get get 7 to 9 hours of record time on a 64GB before it starts to get overwritten.

I'm new at the Nextbase 512GW, so I haven't fiddled properly with the settings. I have discovered that for some reason, at HD setting, it records two clips, one at 1080 and the other at something or other less - thumbnails or timelapse or something. It is said to keep 8 hours at 1080, but I have found that the second clip obviously detracts from storage space. So I've done away with recording that second file and will see next time I'm on a full day how it gets on.
Last Tuesday I drove 480 miles. With four stops to load, unload and wait around, I was out for 12 hours - obviously not driving all that time, stopped for breakfast, had a couple of hours waiting for somebody to turn up etc, and camera runs on a bit when I stop. Also, G-Force setting was getting clips locked unnecessarily, taking up more storage space.

Quote:
13. Dual Files
During normal recording there will be two files saved to the SD Card, one will be the full
sized High Resolution recording (example: 2560 x 1440) and the other is a Low Resolution
recording (848 x 480).
The Low resolution filed can be turned On/Off with this setting.
The two recorded files can be identified by the filenames:
170419_102024_001_HI.MOV and 170419_102024_001_LO.MOV
Both files will be treated as a single recording by the Dash Cam, in regards file protection
and deletion.
The Low Resolution recording is used when streaming recordings from the Dash Cam to
the CAM Viewer™ APP, this reduces any buffering that may be seen if the full-sized High
Resolution recording is used.
Note:
- Only the larger High Resolution recordings will have the Stamps, GPS Location, Speed etc.
Options: On and Off
Default Setting: On

There you go - RTFM Very Happy

I've got the PDFM on my desk! That's how I knew this and have now turned it off.

Next time you're cosying up to NextBase, tell them to swap the touchscreen buttons round and have the operating ones on the right, not left - I'm not left handed and my right hand covers the screen so I can't see what I'm doing!

PS I think mine started to protect files when I got out and slammed the van door!

I also hated the buttons on my 412. I was forever turning them on/off by accident.

When I saw the 380 which is a totally different design I had to change. I far prefer it.
