An unfortunate lorry driver has managed to block the narrow village road in Pentewan, Cornwall for more than 18 hours. He took a wrong turn into a road that was not wide enough.

You may think that's not an unusual story - we often hear of people blindly following sat-navs and being accused of not using their brain... but this particular driver reportedly didn't have a sat-nav and used an old fashioned map.

He simply took a wrong turn, something all experienced drivers will have done in the past.

We tend to think that sat-navs are the cause of many road problems when things go wrong, but I'd bet that this sort of thing used to happen a lot more when we had to rely on map reading skills.

In fact many truck drivers use specialised sat-navs that not only keep them to the right routes but steer them away from unsuitable roads and tight turns.

You could argue that if this driver had such a sat-nav, this incident would have never happened.

But he perhaps had the wrong map. There are truckers maps designed for lorries that show such things as narrow roads and low bridges. There are also on line route planners, some free.

Your story specifically said

Which is why I suggested it was the wrong map

Hey, don't give in so easily! Might I suggest the wording 'old fashioned map' was a description of a paper map rather than a map of vintage vintage? One-Two I reckon Twisted Evil
