I've just seen an advert as I posted on another thread on PGPSW which I think is a bit sinister. It advertises a laptop computer that I was looking at in the John Lewis web site this morning. Anyone else experienced this phenonema?

jack.

Edit - PS It's still there!

I dunno - is that the same as ads for enhancing your base instincts?

No ads or orange banners here. I do have a small box on the right hand side with GPS Shopping in it and an empty white box at the top and bottom. Don't know what you are all on about.

What ad blocker do you use?

Just to clarify that "they" are the google ads and NOT us. We don't look at files on your computer.

Google isn't that clever then.

I keep getting an advert to go to Disneyland Florida, but I've never had a passport Smile

or, do they think the picture of Mickey Mouse applies to me ....

Cookies are used for login stuff (I *think*) and for storing what country you use as default for Camera submissions.

Even then *WE* don;t look at them. The website uses them to save you some time.

When I made that comment I was meaning with regards to looking at your browser history and shopping habits etc etc.

Is anyone else getting ads showing images of scantily clad "young ladies" and text such as “Are you lonely?” , “Russian Single Beauties” and “Join us and find your happiness”, and with invitations to visit sites like charmdatebeauties.com and singlesrussian.com?

Hardly accurately targeted advertising when I’m a 75-year-old woman!

Reported to the Team who are blocking them, and have suggested clearing my cookies, but if that doesn't work I'm afraid I shall be turning my ad blocker on again for this site.

Seems it could be because I recently Googled "Surrey school term dates" and Google interpreted the word "dates" differently from the way I intended it. Since clearing all my history I'm getting more appropriate ads, but it's a pain in the bum losing everything.

Thanks to Rob for blocking the ads and suggesting the possible cause. Thumbs Up

When I had Amazon product suggestion turned on you should have seen some of the ludicrous suggestions it made.

I could sort of follow that because I bought a Canon inkjet cartridge that I should now buy one for an Epson, Brother and HP printer as well Rolling Eyes

I have no idea how to get an adblocker - I simply ignore ads.

Now if I could find something that would block my email crap I’d rejoice. I’m now getting something like 20 every time I open mail and it’s a real pain deleting them all. I’ve set up dozens of Rules, but they seem to be using pictures instead of text and obviously I can’t block pictures.

Kaspersky Total Security has a pretty good spam blocker. I'm fortunate that my ISP allows me to create an unlimited number of aliases, so if I start to get lots of junk mail to a particular alias, I just delete it. It amuses me to think of all that junk going nowhere. Laughing
