I recently acquired a 2699.

Whilst going through the exercise of clearing out the 'foreign' stuff, which had already been done, I noticed that my 2599 only had a few Mb spare space whereas the 2699 had 2Gb spare.

On closer inspection there was a 2Gb IMG file on my 2599 that didn't exist on the 2699.

I backed it up then deleted this IMG file and all is still working AOK but with 2Gb free on the 2599.

I've only just remembered to post this so I can't remember exactly where it was but I'm sure it was in the Map folder. I'll check properly next week if anyone is interested.

If yours has the full EU map then the file you deleted would have been half of that as the full map is over 4 Gb so can't be read in one lump as FAT32 is limited to files of 4Gb or less.

So presumably I've possibly removed the eastern Europe bit which I don't need anyway.

I'll identify it properly tomorrow but I wonder how M knew it was OK to delete it, if he did ? My journey from Eastbourne to Chez Krem (90 miles) worked perfectly without it.

I'll reinstall my 2599 maps and see it it puts it back.

Well it's split North and South. If you look in Settings, Map and Vehicles, myMaps you should find which one is still installed.

I didn't del any big files from it as I don't know what I am doing. But It sounds like the difference between Full and Western Europe. My DS61 as, as suss says, the North and South maps for full Europe , but think the 2699 was only W Europe. Check the box?. Just Googled and amazon says Full Europe for the 2699 LMT-D. Wierd or what?

I've updated the maps and the 2599 is now almost full as it's replaced the img file.

I need to use the large file ploy to force it to say I need a card so it offers a smaller map region.

Not imminent but nice to have some space.

Makes note: M says 'I don't know what I'm doing' Laughing

Yes, as the Western Europe file is less than 4Gb it's not split.

I'd be happy with just UK&I as I don't venture any further.

Why are you concerned about space anyway K? What positive affect does having more free space give?

The 2599 is now at almost full. Any map size increase and it'll force the new map anyway as I hate cards.

Just want to jump before I'm pushed

I'm on a mission to just run from the mapset I need.

It gives me something to do on the dark winter evenings.
