Hi everyone,

I'm a computer programmer by trade and have just started working with handheld devices, specifically those using PocketPC 2003. I want to be able to communicate with my Fortuna ClipOn and then do my own thing with the GPS data it returns. Can anyone give me any rocommendations of where to start?

So far, I tried to install Leadtek WinFast Navigator 1.01 but it won't communicate with my device. I tried swapping the version of TomTom GPS from 3.00 (or 3.03) back to 2.07, but when you select COM5: (being the Bluetooth Outbound com port) rather than "Bluetooth GPS" (a choice which is not available in TomTom GPS 2.07) then, if Bluetooth is not enabled, when you try to run TomTom it goes tits up! It seems that it can't cope with receiving nothing back from COM5: and so it hangs whereas, when I use the newer driver and specify "NMEA 0183v2 38400" and "Bluetooth GPS" it knows to set "GPS Unavailable" when I fire up TomTom if bluetooth is not enabled.

I should mention the fact that other software like GPS Dash and GPS Tuner can both handle the fact that a TomTom driver has been installed and will run happily, so why can't I get WinFast Navigator to communicate?

So... one of my questions is... can I use TomTom ~ GPS version 3.03 set as I described and still use some sort of software to interrogate the raw data being passed back from my Fortuna ClipOn, or should I forget about trying to use third party stuff and just start writing my app?

And... can anyone else who's written their own software point me in the direction of any useful reading material on the web?

Cheers,

Tom

Hmmm. I've just been hunting around and I think GPSTools from the guy that wrote GPSGate might answer the "integration into my own apps" question, but I haven't checked it out thoroughly yet...
