I get the impression the majority use their phones.

I tried that and my HTC One m9, as did my previous m7, gets very very hot when GPS is running all the time.

That can't be good for it.

On my m7 I tried CamerAlert for a week and it used to lockup about half hour after starting, I believe due to overheating.

I sent in the logs but never had any reply.

I find phones can't keep up with the power drain, even when charging. My S6 has a fast charge when plugged in at home, but it doesn't work plugged in the car. Much prefer a separate device to built in and avoid vehicles with them built in like the plague.

For my Zumo the update was two files, not a major problem as long as is works. On the sort of riding I do, I need vehicle power and there is no way a smart phone will last for long enough with the battery drain using 3/4G all the time.

At the end of the day I think PND's are still the best option.

Re Volvo Sensus Satnav.I find it useful for the final 5 miles or so in town, the arrows and instructions in the middle of the speedo are quite useful.
However travelling across country it has some strange views - in my case it always wanted to take me to the M25 and then drive round it to a convenient exit road. Regardless of the traffic conditions.

Where on the dash do you fix it, I use a Brodit support to fasten it to the centre air vent just below the Sensus display.
