Hi this is my first post so please excuse any newbie errors.

I have installed a Dynavin N6 head unit in my car which uses the iGO Primo navigation system. I then installed the UK Safety Camera add-on via Naviextras.

I am not getting any cameras displayed despite driving past known camera locations. I raised a support ticket with Naviextras - they confirmed that 2016 Q1 version of PocketGPSWorld's Speed Camera pack was installed and suggested I restore from a backup and then try the download again.

I followed their instructions but the outcome is still the same. Their advice was to contact www.pocketgpsworld.com - so here I am.

I may be missing something obvious but I would appreciate any help to resolve the problem.

John

It would be really useful if you told 'us' which cameras are missing. At a minimum, the camera type and location. Better still, go to the submission map HERE and see if you can find the cameras on the map. If they are not there, submit them please.

Can you view the data of the camera installation file?

If so then I'm hoping you can identify a problem camera and see whether it is in the file.

2016 Q1 puzzles me as the database is updated weekly not quarterly. Quarterly would lead to inaccurate warnings.

I suspect that if Naviextras do use our data (which I don't think they do, but am prepared to be shot down) they only release their version 4 times a year.

Thanks for the responses.

I have looked at the submission map and the camera locations which I know about are shown. Despite a long trip yesterday along several major routes no cameras of any description were displayed.

I have looked at some other related posts and seen various comments about what should appear in the content/speedcam folder. My folder contains just 2 entries:

SpeedcamUpdates.spud Type SPUD Size 0KB
UnitedKingdom_PocketGPSWorld Type PKCS#7 Certificates 198KB

For information this is the gist of what I received from Naviextras support:

"I have looked into your license files, and I can confirm that you have successfully installed a 2016 Q1 version of PocketGPSWorld's Speed Camera pack. If your problem still persists, please try restoring a previous backup, and then try downloading the update again.

If that does not solve your problem, I would kindly ask you to contact PocketGPSWorld here:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/contact.php

as they were the ones who produced the content itself, we simply implemented it in our software. If there are any issues with the location of the Speed Cameras, they are the ones who can fix it."

I am not sure whether their confirmation that the installation was successful is correct.

Well, I'm fairly certain that it's not installed properly as a zero length file cannot contain too many cameras. The standard way of updating iGO is to place a .txt file in the content/speedcam folder and when iGO starts, it 'compiles' this into what it needs to warn (a speedcam.spdb file). I've done it hundreds of times on several versions of iGO including Primo, and it has always worked for me. If you are a PGPSW subscriber, download the PGPSW iGO *.txt file and try that. Presumably you can access the filing system as you know what's in content/speedcam?
That folder should have a speedcam.spdb file with the PGPSW cameras in it (about 200kB) and a speedcam.spud file. This lattter file contains any cams that you add from the UI and cancels any that you have deleted from the UI.
As you have a file of about 200kB, open it in a test editor and if it looks like the dump below (the first few entries in the PGPSW database) try renaming it to speedcam.txt (make sure that you have your computer set to display extensions though)

The .txt file should look like this:-

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
0.15695,53.18473,6,50,1,90
0.26744,53.15788,8,30,1,315
-4.21041,51.54572,6,30,1,90
-1.15407,51.38646,6,30,1,157
-1.10888,52.93133,6,,1,90
-1.93118,52.75283,6,40,1,135
-1.24835,50.67712,6,50,2,360
-1.31647,53.44295,6,30,,
-1.27717,53.49338,6,30,1,80
-1.29971,53.34566,6,40,2,320
-0.35512,51.83727,6,,1,315

But if you open a populated .spdb file in a text editor it looks a load of gobeldygook.

But thinking about it, the spud file 'should' work.
I assume that you have set up the alerts?

Open this file in a text editor. If it is legible and looks a bit like the one I indicated rename it to speedcam.txt. If it looks lie a load of rubish, rename it to speedcam.spud. In both cases, then reboot iGO. At 198KB, it looks about the right size to be a spud or spdb file but without the correct extension, iGO won't be able to make any sense of it.
Once enabled, the cams show on the map all the time, but you have to drive past them for an alert as they don't audible alert on a simulated trip.

Thanks for the further replies.

I opened the file with a text editor and it doesn't display any legible text.

I then re-installed the SD in the N6 and checked the Alert Settings (which I didn't know existed) to find that they were not enabled. I know I am an idiot!

Embarassed

The cameras are now being shown and audible alerts are being produced. The iGO Primo seems quite happy with the file which was downloaded from Naviextras even though it isn't .spud or .spdb.

Apologies for wasting your time - not impressed with Naviextras support.

Does the iGO Primo accept normal iGO txt files or does it have to be a NaviExtras file?

As I posted above, only getting quarterly camera updates would worry me. We often update almost 200 cameras a week here across all types.

Yeah I would prefer more regular updates myself. I'll let the current subscription expire and then get the database from here, assuming txt file will work.

They have a live feed of our data that they pull multiple times daily...

The 'quarterly' is an error on their part and something that we have mentioned to them numerous times when we keep having to field their support issues :/
