Hi, I have an issue getting Camera Alert to run on my new Sony Xperia Z5 Compact running Android 6.
I have deleted and re-installed Camera Alert a few times and despite closing all other running apps., on launching the app., I get the error message "Camera Alert has quit" and it will not run.
Is there a pending update for the latest Android OP or is it possibly an issue with the Sony Xperia?
Any help greatly appreciated; thank you. |

It's been running fine on my Nexus 5x which was released with Android 6 (currently on 6.01 with the April 2016 security update).
I suspect it's a Sony-specific issue.
If you're not getting as far as loading the app then it won't ask you to send the crashlogs. You can, however, find them in this folder: /sdcard/Android/data/com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert/files
Probably easiest to use a file manager app such as ES File Manager.
Email those to subscriptions@pocketgpsworld.com and we'll look into it.

I too have this issue with my Z5 Premium.
It will force close immediately and and then the next time you get the message that it crashed and would I like to send the logs, but then it will close again before I can press any options.
I will send the logs manually for your information _________________ https://share.octopus.energy/dense-raven-261 |

Sorry, I have tried to send the crash report (160411 222344.txt) by copy & pasting but just get the error message "html tags not allowed". I'm not really sure how else to submit this, but your help is greatly appreciated. |

It's probably characters such as the right and left arrows Shift comma and Shift full stop.
Edit in notepad (or similar), substitute them for a different character such as a tilde ~ and try again. |

Surely the correct way, and easier, is to attach the TXT file to an email, and send it to the given email address. _________________ Richard

That would also do the trick. Probably better too. |

Sorry for appearing to be a bit of a luddite, but I am not too IT literate. Thanks for the continued help! |

Hi, just wondering if my email containing the crash log TXT was received; and if there has been any progress or further help available with this issue. |

This is not just a Sony problem. I have a OnePlus 2. The app opens but crashes as soon as the logo is pressed. Crash reports are generated. I think this problem is quite widespread. My sub is due next month and I shall have to cancel if there is not a fix. |

Crashlogs received.
It's not as widespread as you seem to believe. The main issue is that with device-specific bugs then without owning the device it's difficult to pin down exactly what causes it. Sadly, we don't own every device...
It will be a shame to lose you as a subscriber but fully understand if the app doesn't work for you.

Hi All
I too am in the same predicament with my Sony Z5, and tried it on a friends new Sony and the same error. My subscription is also due in 16 days, and have had to stop the auto renew. This is not sour grapes on my part as I wait for a solution, but the situation is this. I have also changed my car and it has satnav built in, but alas cannot inject the speed camera database into it, so have always had cameralert on the mobile to compliment the sat system. Now I have changed my phone I am denied that back up as well. I have to be honest here and say that Cameralert in my opinion works better for me than the TomTom version which I have now put on my Sony phone and works ok but much prefer cameralert. Hope a solution is found soon, and happy to test any new version.
Kind Regards

Hi MaFt, does this mean that there will not be any update fix in the foreseeable future? Your interest and support has been impeccable over the years and I thank you for that!!
Most issues can be solved by simply reading posts and I would hope this can eventually be solved too!!
Will you be issuing any notice of any fix update to members if and when?
Many thanks......Brian[/b] |

What I don’t understand is that some people upgrade from a phone that works to one that doesn’t.
Why not not just keep the old, CamaerAlert working phone, in the car as a dedicated Camera Warning device?
Surely it's not too difficult to manage two phones with different uses? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599
