Garmin have taken the wraps off their new zūmo 395LM and zūmo 595LM motorcycle navigators.

The rugged, weatherproof models include Garmin Adventurous Routing so riders can select the level of twists and hills on every journey and includes features specifically designed for motorcyclists such as rider alerts, helpful smart features, new streaming music options and much more.

The new devices allow riders to make and receive handsfree calls and spoken directions can be heard when paired with a compatible headset or helmet.

The zūmo 595LM model can pair seamlessly with Garmin's Smartphone link app to give riders access to new features. The use of the app allows the zūmo 595LM to display smartphone information alongside the navigation screen, riders can view texts, app notifications and other data such as live weather and traffic (subscription may be required). Additionally, the new LiveTrack feature lets riders share their ride so friends can track their location.

The new models are available now, the zūmo 395LM is £459.99 and the zūmo 595LM is £579.99

Still using my 2008 Zumo 550 with free liftime updates. I only get about two updates a year now instead of four, but a GPS is mainly only as good as the maps it has. I've been more than happy with my purchase.

Why waist all that money when you can buy a 5 or 7 inch sat nav with igo8 or primo for around £30 to £40. It has worlwide maps, head phone socket & bluetooth etc. I use a 7 inch all the time on my motorbike. If it rains I use a zip tie sandwich bag.

Where do they get these prices from, as said get a tablet, a used Tab 4 is £100 ish (mine was with 12m warranty) chuck any app you like at it, even a used Samsung S2 would be okay, mounting might be a problem but not a big one.

First of all I wasn't recommending the Zumo 395LM, just saying that I have been more than happy with my Zumo 550 for 9+years! Secondly, K13ehr this GPS is made for motor bikes, so I don't think a tablet would be suitable strapped to the handle bars when it's pouring with rain! BovGregg, as I go touring on the bike every year to Europe for 1 -2 months I need something reliable and weather proof, a cheap GPS with a butty bag cover wont do, if it suits you great. Having said that, I always carry old fashioned paper maps - just incase!

We seem to be at cross purposes BeeBeer, you can spend your money as you like, my comment was solely at the price, & not who has one ;)

I'd not strap it to my bike either it would be in a proper designed phone carrier.

As for the weather, I try to avoid it if possible, but a plastic bag would suffice if pushed if I didn't know my way home.

If I was in position to afford something I might need once in a blue moon, I'd go for the Garmin, TomTom have had enough of my money, and I'm not really enamored with anything they've produced in the last few years, app or otherwise, I'm not sure they can remember what a plot is let alone what it was, so Garmin even if only by default deserve a good coat of looking at :D :D

I have a helmet with a 3.5mm jack plug now so more often than not I just listen to the directions, Maps.me being the one I use most.

Kev.

What does the 595 offer over the 590?

A 'comparison' on Garmin's website didn't enlighten me, though that may be my fault...
