Some Honda MY2015 models ( high end Civic & CRV ) are to be fitted with a new SatNav/Radio that is essentially an Android device from spring when they are released.

No real info yet but it would be nice if CamerAlert could be downloaded and updated. I'm also hoping that something better than TMC RDS can be installed. From what I've seen of early screenshots Garmin is one of the icons so their traffic would be nice.[/code]

not sure if it is compatible with the speed cameras or how to load them on, is there any advise you can offer please?
thanks, Adrian

The unit is locked down, no SD card facility and you can't even download from the Google Play Store, only the Honda app store and that is a bit sparse at the moment.

The TMC traffic is a big backwards step from Garmin digital traffic which should have been implemented so in reality no better than the MY14 SatNav IMO

Hi, agree it looks looked down as can't see an option to import any POI's in the garmin navigator app, but can see a usb stick listed under the settings - storage when inserted, so not sure if there is still an option to hack it to copy the files over (there must be POI's somewhere as have the petrol station locations, etc shown when driving).

thanks, Adrian

Those POI's will be the stock ones that come with every Garmin. I'm getting the impression this is a very basic Garmin setup with no opportunity to customise it.

The current Alpine unit is connected to the eye level iMid and key SatNav info is sent to it so you get next turn info in line of sight. This Android version isn't connected so you need to look down, road now not in your peripheral vision so a backwards step.

Be interesting to see if it is improved for MY16 when I may change.

I'll probably have a look at the car after my exam a week on Wednesday, i'm a bit of an IT bod, so sure I'll find a way to get round the restriction, just seems weird that the BMW garmin navigation supports the speed cameras when this one does not, so as you've said it might be a restriction in the sw, but believe you can load POI's onto it via the Honda iphone app, so might be another way to get round it.

It was suggested to connect a laptop to it and sort of root it. That would go down well at warranty time.

If you do find a way to improve it then keep us posted Smile

Another issue coming out of the woodwork is that the radio volume isn't muting enough when the SatNav voice kicks in making it a mish mash and difficult to hear the spoken instructions.

Currently it works well.

on mine it just seems to drop the volume on the right side (drivers side) of car when instructions are spoken. not great, but don't have a problem with it either.

I'm getting delivery of a new Jazz EX-Navi in a few weeks and wondered if there was any update on this. Being able to load cameras that is.

Absolutely not, Honda have it locked down tight.

Under normal circumstances I would have p/x'd to a new Civic next month but the head unit and it's user list of bugs has put me off:

Frequent locking - dealer has a firmware update
Reversing camera gridlines disappear - ditto
Won't pair or stay paired to recent Android phones, iPhones seem OK.
SatNav often shows you a few hundred yards out (driving through a field has been quoted)
Doesn't always mute the radio when navigation instructions are issued.
Honda App Store is still empty
Moisture getting under the unit glass under current damp/wet conditions.
Small number of units developing a green hue/colour cast.
Not linked to the high level iMid so you need to look down, at the unit for navigation taking your eyes completely off the road.

I've been scouring the US sites because the latest 2016 10G Civic is on sale and it has the same substandard head unit with loads of complaints.

I can see me going for a BMW 1 Series next March.

You may be lucky.

Keep us informed though.

A Swindon contact I have said that the old Alpine headunit cost £1500 but the new Android one costs £500.

But I bet the price of the upgrade does not reflect the £1000

What what I was told Honda needed to reduce the RRP of the Civic and this move saved a grand.
Other little things have now gone.

Cosmetic seat bolt covers (looks cheap now you can see the bolts)
Elasticated owners manual strap in the glovebox (used to keep the manual secure at the back so the front was useable)
Glovebox light
Other bits I forget
