I received a warning yesterday for a provisional mobile camera at 50 mph on the A19 southbound carriageway near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. It surprised me as the A19 is 70 mph and there are no road works in the area. I have checked the database this morning but the only provisional camera in that area is 178648 recorded at 70mph. However, both I and my passengers all heard the announced speed as 50 mph.

Could this be possible in any way or are we all heading for the Alzheimer's ward?

Don't book yourself in yet. Very Happy
What device do you have? Do other pMobiles@70 announce correctly? Is it possible that you have a 50 MPH sound file named as a 70 MPH file, so that it's playing the correct file but the recorded voice is wrong?

What device are you using?

There used to be a mobile there set at 60mph. Perhaps you have some old files on there and it was saying '60' not '50'?

Just another possibility anyway...

Sorry guys I should have put that information in the post.

I'm using a Nexus 7 Android device as I can no longer load the database into my new TT. So I don't actually download any data other than allowing CamerAlert to update each Thursday morning. I had noticed this once before but didn't have the opportunity to mark it's positon but as this position is close to home the brain cell was able to recognise where I was. Travelling southbound on the A19 I do get the 40 mph warning for the camera on the A170 just east of Thirsk, but that of course is unavoidable as it is directly in front of my vehicle even though not on my route. I assume that if the mobile is logged onto the database as 70, which it would appear to be, then it automatically picks up the 70 mph voice instruction?
I thought at first that I had misheard the information but my passengers heard the same information. It just happened at that time that I was explaining to them the virtues of the system.

Hmm... Difficult one really! If you can pass it again and check then that would be ideal! I've not seen any issues with the wrong sound being played for a certain speed, but then that's not to say there isn't a bug somewhere on some device!

Yesterday I drove up and back down the A19 there. I had no 50mph warnings and all the 70s sounded like 70 (but I was deliberately listening carefully for the purpose of this thread and I do have the volume high enough to frighten occasional passengers). I forgot to go to my Alzheimers appointment.

I vaguely recall a previous occasion of someone mishearing a speed call.

As a possible comment, how long ago was pMobile 178648 removed? It's no longer on the database (I wonder if it was me declining it Shocked ).

I know that I have miss-heard the speed of the alerts from CA on several occasions thinking that the cam was alerting at the wrong speed, and thought what's going on here.

I have just got round to using the route down to York gain, as York is now open again after the floods. Dennis is right, the errant 50mph notification has gone along with another unverified site a few hundred metres north of the two layby sites that are in use almost every day. I cannot explain why this should happen especially as it was on my android device and not on my TT. I was always confused about the pMobile as there was absolutely no where for a camera van to safely sit on the verge at that point, so I always assumed that someone had perhaps added the site after a journey and got the location wrong but the 50 mph really did confuse both me and my passengers.
Anyway as of yesterday the only warnings in that location are correct both in number and speed.

Just in passing, be aware that on the Android you can download at any time, any day, and you'll get a more up to date version than the Wednesday update. I usually download the latest each morning before I set off on my travels (and it's different/updated every time).

Or pressed the button when they were long past the cam and didn't bother to correct it. That's what happens and that's why we have verifiers. But remember that it needn't be a scamera van, it may be Mr. Plod on a motorbike and a handheld. They can operate anywhere they like.
