Hey! Have been loyal to Garmin for may years but was disappointed with model I bought last year and returned. mainly because I preferred planning (long European motorhome tours) on PC using mapsource and as this not now supported hated the bug infested basecamp.
I have just got a 6 inch phablet phone(acer liquid S2) so thinking of app for that? needs to be able to load 3rd party camping related POI. prefer the best available, happy to pay for it......pretty useless technically so would prefer a user friendly model:) |

I have a very similar question, and am disappopinted that this hasn't received an answer despite being posted nearly a year ago.
I have been considering replacing my very elderly TomTom GO Classic with one of the latest models with lifetime traffic and lifetime maps - which means either the 5000 or 6000. But my understanding is that these don't support third party POIs - such as the PGPSW speed camera database - which would be a show-stopper as far as I am concerned.
So, having recently acquired an Android-based smart phone, I'm wondering just how much navigation functionality I can persuade that to provide, by using suitable apps. I already have CamAlert loaded but no navigation as such. Are there any inexpensive - or even free - apps which provide turn by turn navigation similar to that provided by dedicated satnat devices? Are there any which monitor traffic conditions and re-route around hold-ups?
I've looked through the forum list to see whether there are any forums dedicated to navigation apps but can't find any. Am I missing something? _________________ Roger

I like using Waze as a free navigation app wirh traffic. It consumes data, so you shall need that to factor in, but you cant get traffic for any app without data. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

All the newer nuvis can be made to work with Mapsource if that's what is required. Equally there have been many changes to Basecamp since Jan 14 and it can no longer be described as 'bug infested' _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |
