I use a split cable that I made up which goes from the USB to my ipod ( data and power ) and to my phone ( power only with the data connectors on the phone shorted out so it will charge) .

I think I have tried every configuration under the sun and I cannot get this to work once a call has been made at the same time the car has passed a camera. It is very frustrating and when you go back through the posts it seems several people in several types of car have this problem and are only met with silence when they post.

I think for the time being I will just use the app as is an not renew my subscription and just have to remember to close the app down and restart after a call. I just hope I am not going through a camera whilst I am doing it.

Very Happy

By the way I just read your post on the Bimmerpost forum and you said you coded enhanced bluetooth. Is it worth doing and is it pretty straight forward?

I give in..... It's exactly as you say.

I think there are two problems.
1/ CA needs to be cajoled into working if you use the USB in the arm rest.
2/ CA won't work after you make a call. This is regardless of audio source or where you connect it (USB or cigarette lighter socket).

Point 1 can be worked around, but point 2 make it just too dangerous to keep restarting CA whilst driving, so I can't justify renewing the subscription.
Too flaky to be useful and as you first said it's been a known bug for some time.

As for coding EBT, unless you use BT streaming or want to connect more than one phone then it's not really worth it.
Email doesn't work, SMS does, as does calendar.
If you like to fiddle ( I do) then it's easy enough.

Just upgraded to latest BMW connected drive software 2.4.0, and it "seems" to fix all the problems Jumping With Joy
Haven't gone for a proper drive yet but I can to use CA via USB whilst using radio, iphone music or HDD music.
I can select either Bluetooth or phone speaker as output without disconnecting/reconnecting cable.
Also works after making some phone calls.

So it was the Beemer that was the problem, not CA? Very Happy

Absolutely.

Looking foward to using CA as intended.
It was getting dangerous to use, having to restart it every time I made a call.
The phone can now sit in the armrest out of the way.

I'm on the road tomorrow so I can check it properly just to confirm it's not a fluke (born pessimist) Laughing

Hi NitramA

How did you get on after you upgraded to 2.4.0 ? Does Cameralert works seamlessly?

I checked the BMW website and could not find 2.4.0 for the firmware upgrade. The highest firmware I could find after inputting the chassis number was 2.34.1. for my 3 series prof media.

Hi Chris,
I was referring to the iPhone Connected Drive software, not the iDrive firmware.
Sorry for the confusion.

Must admit I'd given up on this.
Despite my first thoughts being that it was fixed, it became apparent that it is still basically broke.

Whilst audio reliability seems to be better, its still unreliable, especially if you add phone calls into the mix (ingoing or outgoing). It all seems to depend on which way the wind is blowing.

I even tried the TomTom camera app & Waze but they all had problems with audio. In fact CA seems to be better than all of them in this respect.

Another forum talked about a firmware update coming from BMW in August that may fix the myriad of connection problems associated with iPhones and BMW, so I was hoping that might fix some of this.
Not seen any mention since and to be honest I'm not holding my breath.

I'm of two minds if this is an Apple,BMW or CA issue. I'd have said it was BMW before, but I've seen more than one post on this forum about CA losing audio on iPhones after a phone call.
Might be Apple not allowing Developers sufficient notice of a change or access to API's.
So who knows.

I've taken the advice of some of the "Do Gooders" on this forum by slowing down and not needing CA in the first place Laughing

Me too. I have started leaving it in Eco Pro most of the time and it is a safer and more relaxed way to drive.

The only problem is when 40mph areas suddenly turn into 30mph areas with a camera and I am on the phone ( Hands free of course).
