My DAB radio just does it by magic. Power cut last Tuesday (well, blown fuse, same difference). When the power came on again, the clock told the right time. Amazing.

Mind you the Greenwich time signal on a DAB radio is three seconds behind the actual time due to the dab signal delay....

I've got a radio in the van. But it's the Renault R-Link TomTom, and it randomly changes channel of its own accord from AM to FM. Sad

R = Rubbish (the worst TomTom satnav I've ever used). Come to think of it, it does also stand for random - pleases itself when to acquire HD Traffic (and it's NOT pleased where HD Traffic is concerned), pleases itself when to retain satellite lock or wander off on a side street. And various other pleasures.

Ah, but if you had one of these new fangled watches, you wouldn't have to do that. Very Happy Just have to change the battery four times a year instead Sad

Hi,

I am also one of these people who loves new technology, I had the first digital watch in the UK so the company told me back in 1975 and cost me £248.40. I had it imported into the UK direct from the company that made it in Canada, I had to go to their UK office and collect it. The watch was an LED watch and when I pressed the button to see the time, anyone sitting near who noticed, made a grab for my wrist, it was like being James Bond! Then, the watch would do a round of the pub, cost me a fortune in battteries, I still have the watch and it is still working and keeping good time!

At the moment I have three radio controlled watches, a very old Junghans Mega 1. This was one of Junghan's first radio controlled watches. I also have a Junghans Mega Solar, this is all Ceramic and is very light. My latest watch is a Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk AT which is all titanium, which never needs a new battery as it is solar powered, so no changing batteries x times per year. The watch I would like is the Citizen GPS Satellite Wave-Air titanium Watch, the only problem is the cost of £1795, so with all these other watches my wife is not too happy for me to spend that sort of money Rolling Eyes .

Bob.

Otherwise just setting the time is not a great asset, unless you live somewhere like Australia, Russia, or parts of America where the radio controlled signals don't reach.

Hi Philip,

I think you are a bit behind the times, the new radio controlled watches do update in Australia and America. I have a Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk AT which is all titanium, it never needs a battery as it is solar powered and updates in Australia and the US.

What about those that we could buy from Eagle comic or the Daily Mail back in the days before you lot were born? A Dan Dare watch, or a Mickey Mouse one? I never had one, but I'm sure they were digital - at least they had numbers instead of dials?

But I bought the first electronic calculator in 1975 for my office. It did addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. At around £250 it worked with illuminated wires and if you divided something by zero it went bananas and the only way to stop it was to unplug it. Very Happy

This thread is exploring the borders of off-topic, but would like to use it to ask if anyone is experiencing a loss of signal strength after the last long maintenance period[June]? Three of my four clocks no longer pick up the signal on my bedside table after years of working fine there. Two of them get the signal if I place them near the bedroom window.
