Whilst browsing through the Argos catalogue yesterday I spotted a Binatone SatNav.

This particular unit is a normal SatNav from the front but is advertised as having a SD card recording camera on the back.

These days what a superb idea, and one I've posted about before.

Just a shame it's Binatone and not Garmin.

At that price might be worth it for the recording facility.

What's with the dipped beam icon in the first screen shot?

It could possibly mean 'It's getting dark so put your lights on'. (I'm guessing) but as we all know, a camera needs light

In the Argos Q&A's it mentions that it records for 5mins before over-writing the data. Agreed, a good feature and certainly a step in the right direction but not really much use. I would imagine that the first 5 mins of any incident would involve a discussion with the other party and not necessarily thinking about switching the SatNav off to preserve data.

I would wonder WHICH five minutes - Does it record five minute segments? In which case, what does it do when the five minutes is full? Wipe and start again, (so that in an incident, if it happened at the wipe stage you'd be without anything recorded) or is it in 1 minute segments like the Roadhawk?

Price £99.99. Did you notice the footnote that it has previously been on sale at £74.99? Very Happy

Not really, its usual for Argos, it means you should have bought it the last time it was on offer

What a rotten idea. If anyone told me 'I told you that you should have bought it then', I wouldn't be best pleased. What useful function is the Argos policy? Does it imply that it will be on sale at the lower price again some time in the future, or is it just designed to pee you off?

Argos aren't stupid. If someone takes an item back without a receipt they don't give the current price in credit, they give the lowest sale price on the assumption that that is what you paid for it without any other evidence.

My guess is they show the previous sale price as a warning that if you buy it then try take it back once the price goes up that you'll only get £74.99 back for it. I assume that in order for this to be legal, they have to advertise teh previous sale price.
