Mercedes Benz have unveiled a new feature to help you find your car when you lose it in the car park. Technical details are unavailable but the system is said to work like Apple's "Find my iPhone" app; the owner can use an app to locate there car using the coordinates from the car's GPS chip.

There are 2 ways this could work. The first is that the car also has a mobile data connection and the app is able to send a signal to the car to get its current position. The second is that there is no data connection and the location is simply 'added' to the app via bluetooth or similar when you launch the app as you park.

There is no mention in the report about using it to locate a stolen vehicle or seeing where your spouse is (if you're that way inclined) so I have a feeling it will be the second option. Hopefully we can get some more information about this soon!

"My Bmw Remote" app will do this & I've found it very useful a few times when I've left the car in a large car park & not noted where I'd left it. I believe BMW can locate the car which is useful if you break down.

It probably only applies to cars with OE Sat Nav & Connected Drive subscription though, which is free for the first 3 years.

Probably, if you can afford a new Merc, then you'd also have 'a man' to find it for you.... Twisted Evil

If you can't remember where you parked your car, should you really be driving? Shocked

My favourite amusement is when somebody is standing there looking round. If I think I can get away with it, I suggest choosing a nice coloured one, or say something like "Can you see one you'd like?" Very Happy

there are dozens of 3rd party solutions for this.
guardian platinum (for mobiles) is one.
I have an old mobile phone running Symbian secreted in the car with a PAYG sim in it, I can text it and get a google maps reference in a few moments...
