Hi

My new car has inbuilt sat nav but is unable to accept camera alerts.

Can anyone suggest an app for my iphone that will use camera alerts
but does NOT use data, only the inbuilt GPS. I only require the alerts not the full blown sat nav

Thanks

You have got it in one. Cameralert from PGPSW. It only uses data on the fly if you display the maps. Of course the weekly updates do use a bit of data, but you will probably have the best option. The app is free and updates are also free to PGPSW subscribers (£20 otherwise)

Thanks for that. I have subscribed for years but am not sure about the set up for the iphone.

Do I just download the app and run "as is" or does it require a sat nav program to run it in......

I presume that I just download the app via wifi in Itunes and transfer to my
phone.

Thanks

Yes. Then log in with your PGPSW log in details, update and run the app. No separate sat nav app is needed.

It will use data if you enable the map view but if you just show the list of cameras it uses no data other than when you update the database. You can even hide it in the background and just use the voice alerts.

Have a look at the manual here

Thank you so much.

That solves the data use problem.

As for the data use problem, CamerAlert doesn't gobble the stuff. I have 500MB included in my monthly plan and I have never ever even approached that, using CamerAlert and my emails.

For example, on 3rd February I did a very long day, Bristol to Gateshead and back, just over 600 miles, with CamerAlert running all the time. My bill shows usage of 15.270MB for that day, which was exceptional.

o

Interesting

I inherited the I phone and as I have no use for emails on the move, took out a paygo deal. I found that despite having an allowance for data, whenever I used an app requiring data (no matter how short a time) I was deducted £1 for use of 50mb until midnight............this then took my call allowance after the data was used up.

The solution that you gents have supplied me with are spot onas I used it yesterday without problems

Thank you all

Ah, of course - I have a monthly plan and I really should try to remember that others don't necessarily have the same. Apologies.
