Hi

I would have thought that if you have traveled that route for six years, you should not need any device to help you find your way.

I don't think that's the point of the thread. What I think we are talking about is TomTom's calculation of route and whether it's good. Put yourself in his route, but without any knowledge and you will have to follow TT come what may. For a number of examples, we have shown that the TT way can sometimes be very poor if/when you turn off the prescribed TT route.

When I deliberately headed off route on Saturday, my GO1005 got into such a state it simply wouldn't recalculate. After about quarter of an hour of somewhat blind driving, I stopped and did a soft reset to get it back to life. I don't need that in the middle of rural Wales!

Sorry, only just noticed your reply.
In the absence of a smiley I will assume it is serious.
The fact that I know the route like the back of my hand is irrelevant. There are various reasons why I should want to run TomTom -

1. To know my ETA accurately
2. For traffic information
3. To remind me to take a turning - the fact that I drive it every week puts me on autopilot and is the very reason why I am quite likely to miss my intended junction

I just can't understand why other people aren't troubled by TomTom's rerouting behaviour. Only yesterday, I was driving a not particularly familiar route from Lincoln to Leeds which also has three different routes, all very similar in time. Just after leaving Lincoln I made a snap decision to take an unfamiliar route and turned right at the Lincoln bypass, expecting TomTom to reroute appropriately. But no it insisted on taking me a couple of miles to a roundabout to do a U-Turn and get back on my original route. The only reason I knew where to turn was because I was running Waze on my other phone and as it happens it had preselected my new route. As soon as I told TomTom manually to replan, sure enough it took me the new way (and I did the replan before reaching the U-Turn roundabout). If I hadn't had Waze I would have been totally distracted by what TomTom was telling me, in rush hour, on a busy dual carriageway.
