I am in the markey for a new SatNave having an ancient Nuvi 865T for some time.

I am particularly interested in traffic and would love to hear from real experience. From what I have read, Garmin Digital traffic is rubbish, but I do like Garmin for the navigation; never let me down.

The GO 6000 looks like a good unit, but with a revised interface, but would really appreciate opinions from someone that has and uses one? Free Map updates and HD traffic for life are attractive too Very Happy

Thanks in advance

I've got one that I'm reviewing (taking longer than I'd hoped).

Do you have any specific requirements or questions about it?

As I said I am particularly interested in traffic prediction accuracy, so there are no surprises. How accurate are the IQ routes?

Routing, I have never been that impressed with it historically on TomTom compared with Garmin, but I can be convinced otherwise.

Looking that your TomTom series on mapping etc, they are very convincing and I don't want to succumb to the hype really.

Entering addresses and postcodes - is the file up to date and recognise most that you enter. Just from a usability point of view, does the new interface work.

Really I don't want it to do anything except get me to my destination, using the best route, shortest, fastest, IQ etc and avoid congestion. I am a lifetime member, so use your speed camera file but my Garmin falls over regularly with that because of the number etc apparently a known problem, but how does the 1000 handle it.

Thank you

Not sure where you've read that. I bought a Garmin 2508 with digital traffic a couple of months ago and it's been spot on, including a delay the other day of 5 minutes just down to slow moving traffic that it correctly predicted.

That's an old review talking about what was Garmin 3D Live traffic, not the new Digital traffic. See here http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Ba4755850-cd01-11e0-cf56-000000000000%7D

Refresh rate with the new digital traffic is much more frequent, far more detailed and the service is excellent from my experience.

Your experience is very helpful thank you. I would rather not be influenced by Garmin or TomTom themselves, as clearly both present a very good case, as they would!

That's why I am trying to get some real world experience, preferably on both sides of the camp. Maybe that is a comparison for MaFt in his review?

Just seen MaFt's review, which wasn't very glowing and disappointing for a premium product.

I also found this snippet http://www.trustedreviews.com/garmin-nuvi-2598-lmt-d_GPS---Sat-Nav_review comparing traffic with Garmin too. It's such a shame there is nothing more substantial - Maybe a future review comparing Traffic on this site??

Was it the review or the premium product that was disappointing?

Yes, just to clarify, it was the product that was disappointing, not the review.

Like I have suggested, I really think there is a requirement for a comparison of traffic systems. It wouldn't take much to have two units side by side and compare whilst driving around for a few weeks to see which has the better predictive and delay accuracy?

If it's that easy, why don't you do it? Very Happy Very Happy Probably the same reason that others haven't.

Because I don't have access to two units, but I assume, possibly incorrectly, that this site gets demo units to test and review etc?

I think they used to get demo units some long time ago, but the makers now seem to favour passing them to journals where the "reviewer" is pretty happy to mostly copy and paste the advertising blurbs. The 6000 review is quite a rarity these days.

As for comparing units side by side for a few weeks, the same applies - infrequent availability, probably not two makes with similar features at the same time.

For what it's worth, I do run more than one model side by side, but they are all TomToms. I have in the past reported instances of comparing their RDS-TMC traffic, and their HD Traffic. In a nutshell, RDS-TMC gives a good appearance and greater distance coverage, but less coverage (side roads) and very inferior quality (old cleared problems not cleared from the downloads).

This does not offer any comparison with any other traffic system from other suppliers.
