Thanks Tomo, but as you say it is an issue for Road Angel who have sold devices that supposedly receive [almost] continual updates of camera positions, especially mobile cameras.

Got the signal again at the bottom of my garden today. Can they be experimenting with signal strength. Is it really that cost sensitive?

Probably not. 2g signal is pretty fixed (assuming the RA uses 2g not 3G).

The only way to get the signal further for them is to boost the power output up if they can or to point the antenna in a slightly different direction or tilt.

If you speak to them and get someone good, they may be able to get your case onto one of the network planners who can ask for the site to be optimised more.

It could be a long process though as if the antenna needs moving direction it is often a manual process, engineers would have to come to the site and physically move it. Of course, they move it to suit you, they could affect someone else but they have the tools to see what the affects should be before they do move it.

I'm driving around locally and in the area of about 8 sq. miles I'm getting no connection now. I'll try further afield Monday. I just think I'm a statistic in the very poor connection Orange/T-mobile/EE are now widely reported as having.

Just found this little article.

Now I've found this. So my 2G signal may be down as EE think 3G coverage will compensate as they 'upgrade' their network. I could be optimistic about the future of 2G on this basis, if it were not for the concern that the 2G network could be handed over to 4G at short notice.

Out along the A40, finally connected at High Wycombe. On the way back hung on until Uxbridge, then became more and more patchy.

Now have a signal at my home again, though the indicator shows it is marginally weaker than it was.

I've been participating in the discussion of the 2G signal in the Tomtom section. The suggestion is that the 2G capacity will be retained but reduced in capacity.

What I'm finding with the Vantage is that the initial connection each day, which requires a contact of maybe 15/20 seconds, takes a much longer time to establish ie my device 'has to wait in a queue'. Once connected the updates every 2/3 minutes take place routinely but they only require a contact of a fraction of a second. There are times of the day - such as late afternoon - when I cannot connect at all. So I think the reduced 2G capacity, as regards EE at any rate, is probably correct.

Now that the EE signal masts around London seem to be 'rewired', I thought I'd just tidy this up. I get no EE signal any where in my house, but there is one spot in my back garden where I get a signal strength of one - three bars [out of 5]. My connection procedure is:

1. Turn on Vantage let it, get gps lock, and see if it gets an EE connection, if it does fine, if not:
2. Reset device for 15 seconds, wait for gps lock, see if it gets EE connection, if not:
3. Turn device off then on again, wait for gps lock, see if it gets EE connection. It usually does.

If not there is a server or mast problem - try again later/tomorrow.

This assumes you are in an area with an EE signal - probably a big assumption.

Stayed in Bourton-on-the-Water for a couple of days. RA started up faultlessly every time. Meanwhile in W. London still need resets plus I've found a signal blindspot quite nearby.

Still have to go down the garden for a signal, but lately I'm not having to do frequent resets to get the ota connection.

EE signal might be slightly stronger? Could RA have downloaded a bit of modem update stuff?

I haven't gotta RA, but I went to Exeter today. It rained part of the day. It's raining now. I had sausage and mash for tea. I'm going to have a bagga crisps and a cola for telly. I'll go to bed later. Very Happy

It's therapy; just like all blogging....... what peeved me was this lack of connectivity just when I'd taken out a 3 year sub.

PS: 2058 views, must be some people also looking for answers?

I don't have that connectivity problem. Maybe it's because I haven't gotta EE2G?
