Is Garmin still non-directional?

MaFt - could you check your end that the way the POIs are programmed by PGPSW aren't doing anything to disable the over-speed ping disabling (if you see what I mean!)? Garmin have told me that custom POIs "should" respond to the off/single tone buttons. They advised me to experiment with the Garmin POIs - if they work, then the problem lies with the custom POIs. Can't go out for a spin to check right now...

Well, I contacted Garmin. Here's my message to them and their ever-so nice reply. Rolling Eyes

I love my Zumo 660 but I wish Garmin would allow third-party
providers of POIs to access the "direction aware" capability of the
device. I am a user of the fantastic PGPSW service that provides weekly
updated information on traffic safety camera sites but the information
is not direction sensitive (in other words warnings are issued even if
the camera applies exclusively to the other lane of traffic). I am
informed that this is because the service is prevented from accessing
the full capability of Garmin satnavs. Could I encourage Garmin to allow
full access to the technology? You would make a lot of people very
happy.

If you use the utility WalkerX and I created you can turn off overspeed warnings by camera type and speed.

I think for specs camera areas I prefer to have it remind me though. It's also unusual for a car speedo to read less or the same as GPS.

If I set my CC to 60 (car) then the SatNav reads about 58 so I get no overspeed warnings.

Yes but I set my CC to (say) 54 so that the GPS shows 50.

Does your utility make it possible to change the overspeed warnings, e.g. by only sounding them if you're travelling 10% over the posted limit?

No, it uses the speed and separates them into approach and overspeed. The one main problem with Garmins is where you have cameras on opposite sides of the road (Motorway gantries for example). This causes double the warnings as they stack up. This has a knock on effect of still producing warnings when you have passed the camera.

I do cater for this and the warnings are considerably reduced.
