|
|
Navevo, the specialist HGV Satnav company, is claiming a world first with the launch of a HGV Cyclist Alert feature. The alert provides drivers with an audible and visual alert when they are approaching a junction or road section, where it has been determined there are high numbers of cyclists and HGVs using data provided by Transport for London (TfL).
The on-screen warning indicates a warning zone of 50m radius along with an audible tone and is intended to serve as a reminder to drivers of the need to be observant for cyclists.
ProNav HGV Cyclist Alert is to be supplied as a standard feature on ProNav PNN420 models and will be rolled out to all ProNav systems in due course.
There have been a number of accidents where cyclists were fatally injured by HGVs and this safety initiative can only be a positive step forward in increasing awareness if the issues.

Shame they don't do one for cyclists warning them of high truck density. Oh, I remember, trucks are rather large and I am rather small so I won't cycle up on the inside of this one just in case he is turning left and hasn't seem me being so stupid. Doh, it's not rocket science, is it? |

Couldn't have put it better myself ! When are people going to start educating cyclists to ride in a safe manner and be aware of their surroundings. You won't protect every idiot, no matter how much warnings, sensors, cameras you put on a truck ..... COMMON SENSE is required !!! |
