First post.

I'm in the fortunate position of having not yet spent any money on a GPS/PDA system (well, unless you count a disastrous foray a few years ago with a Laptop and PCMCIA GPS unit hooked up to a copy of Autoroute).

I was all set to buy myself an iPAQ 4150 and TT3 or CoPilot 5, but just noticed the Tungsten version of TT.

Now I'm in a quandry. Both systems will total up to about the same amount, so I'm leaning more towards the Tungsten, purely because it has a larger screen. Although it would seem it might be more stable as well, which is important.

However, nobody seems to be talking about the Tungsten system on these threads, all the new buyers appear to be going down the PocketPC. route. I don't know why?

Luckily I have no existing hardware investment, so am free to choose either.

I also wondered if running TT3 for PocketPC on a Toshiba E800 (with the massive 640x480 screen) might be an even better bet - but would it use the extra screen size??

Any comments from anyone who's been able to play with and compare the different systems?

Thanks,

Don't be blinded by the bigger screen resolutions - it's still the same screen size. And predominantly the better resolution is used to display the existing information better rather than display more information.

IMHO Most people are going for the Pocket PC version because they have a bigger choice of applications.

I originally bought the T3/TT3 combination, but very quickly changed it for a 2210.

The T3 is nice as a PDA, but on TT I use 'homemade' POIs all the time and the T3's inability to handle them makes it a vastly inferior system for me.

Also having the screen in Landscape mode is really just a pretty gimmick. Most of the time you're going top to bottom (and I mainly rely on the spoken instructions whilst driving).

HTH,
John

Thanks dastardly. I think that pretty much explains it then! Fairly conclusive that you lashed out the cash twice ...

And don't forget the free (or very inexpensive) add-ons which greatly increase the functionality of TTN3, eg UK Postcodes, GPS Assist, CheckPOInt, etc. These are all for PPC

I originally had a t3 and finally got a 4150. There is / was more software available for the ipaq and the 4150 is good for a pda. The wireless on it is more sensitive than the t3. It has bluetooth as well . A lot better, believe me.

Ah, well in a piece of slick diplomacy I convinced Mrs dastardly that she couldn't live without a T3, and she loves it (Phew) Thumbs Up
