Impressed by the "From today, this service is available in Germany and The Netherlands, and will be available in 23 countries before the end of 2012."
I wonder if it will require a new NavCore to break my TT Go 540 (yet again)?
So, basically, they are advertising a new version of HD Traffic which promises to give, ermmmm, what was promised by previous versions and TMC before that
I was never impressed with the peice of string round the windscreen to get TMC, but the GPRS version worked so they withdrew that (strangely that put the data transfer costs on the owner, not TT - odd) _________________ TomTom Go 540 - V9.058, Map GB & Ireland 860.3101

65% more road closures reported sounds promising. I assume this is a back of house upgrade not dependant on navcore. hope so still waiting for my navcore update for free daily map changes must have the only device to not be updated yet |

Another unsubstantiated soundbite from TomTom. Is there somewhere on the device which says what version of HD Traffic you are using?
"If you have a Live device, you've got HD 6, believe me I'm a TT PR guru." "If you've got HD 6, your traffic service is now 65% better than last week, believe me I'm a TT PR guru."
"If you've got a Live device, you've got speed cameras updated OTA, believe me etc."
If you've got a Live device, you've got up to date Fuel prices, believe me, etc." _________________ Dennis

I thought that you didn't do cynical Dennis. Oh sorry, just remembered, it's subtle that you don't do. Trust me, I'm the other tired old man. |

If 65% of roads are actually closed then something is wrong. _________________ GO 620, Tomtom Android EU,

65% are closed, 15% are (according to TomTom) changed.
Thank God for MapShare (and Twitter and Facebook connectivity) to cover the remainder! _________________ Dennis

It's not 65% of roads that are closed, it's TT admitting that they have been telling us about only 35% of the road closures that you have been paying them good money to tell you about |

As the amount of HD Traffic information increases the range from the device which it covers can only get shorter unless the data capacity increases and maybe they have found a way of doing this?
Of course once the information is totally accurate but down to a range of 100yds from the device it will be as good as the human eye in spotting traffic delays. _________________ Drivelux |

You have to be so careful when handling statistics. The BBC Radio 4 programme "More or Less" goes into this a lot. And indeed, the recent XKCD http://xkcd.com/1102/ shows the true meaning of the TomTom 65% increase. Remember, back in the HDv4, they added manual processing of closed roads. Before that, there were close to NO closures reported. Then they started adding some, perhaps 1% of closures. In this latest version, a 65% increase could be as few as 2% of the total to achieve this increase. Now, I suspect it will be bigger, but it doesn't mean that there are now 65% of road closures reported, just that 65% more than the previous number reported will be. |

Yep. They've given you Twitter and Facebook so that you can all go Social Network to warn each other of traffic jams. All you need do is drive in convoys so that the guys at the front can twit the facebooks at the back that there's a jam ahead and the guys in the middle can say how slow it is. _________________ Dennis

@matthew.
Yep just so. If there were 100 closures and TT reported one of them than an increase to reporting two of them is 100% increase, but still not very good coverage. |

Actually, now that I have two devices running side by side on the same map versions, I'm tempted to get mapshare on one of them to see what the fuss is all about. Maybe. Not promising - they are slow enough as it is already. _________________ Dennis
