Hi, guys,

I'm new and time-poor; please bear with me!

I have the VW RNS510 system in a Skoda Superb. To install the speed camera database do I have to subscribe to PGPSW (@£19.99) AND purchase Pimp My Nav?

What is the connection between the two? Pimp My Nav seems to be totally separate (but on a linked page) so I cannot at the moment envision the process by which I actually synthesise the two and get the data onto my unit.javascript:emoticon('Confused')

Help very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ned Brickley.

Welcome humanbydesign.
Using the "search" facility at the top-right of this page I've just searched for "RNS510".
The results are not encouraging, especially so if you are time-poor.

May I suggest that you do a similar search, read through the replies and follow a few of the links to see if you feel that it is something you wish to persevere with. It looks way complicated and without much guarantee of success. However, if you have read something contrary which involves PimpMyNav, any chance of a link please?.

IF you have a SmartPhone, there is a much simpler solution.

The approach you need to take depends upon what version of firmware and maps you have in your RNS510. Older firmware required patching a copy of the Map DVD using a tool such as Pimp My Nav before burning a new DVD. I've not come across that one before, as I used to use an earlier version of POI Inspector to handle that task. Newer versions of the firmware allow you to simply import a POI database from an SD card. I have upgraded the firmware in my RNS510 and now use the latest version of POI Inspector to build my personal POI database.

Thanks for that, Kam. I actually have v8 maps and 4024 firmware, but loading via SD card didn't work for me. The unit said "loading data", but then nothing actually happened. Am I doing something wrong?

What format is the file on your SD card in? It needs to be a SQL database... mine is called PersonalPOI.db3. In order to use the PGPS Speed Camera data, you would need to download the file in another format such as .OV2 and then convert it.

I don't use the PGPS Speed Camera data myself, but have collected quite a few personal POIs over the years which I tend to keep in OV2 format. I use POIInspector (http://poinspect0r.blogspot.co.uk/) to convert these and build a SQL database for use by the RNS510.
