Hi,

Following on from GPSW's announcement 'TomTom To Supply Real-Time Traffic Data to AA Website', I thought people might be interested in a way to save a link in their browser (especially mobile browser) which will go directly to a map centered on a specific location and zoom level.

So, if your normal commute, for example, has a common bottle neck and you want to see what the congestion is like at that location now, you can just click on a link in your favourites and the browser will go straight to it at a pre-determined zoom level. No more panning and zooming at a snails pace.

Of course, if you have a pay subscription to TomTom's data then this will be unnecessary.

This came about from a query to the AA's website. They replied very quickly and helpfully thusly:-

'It is possible and a suggestion we are considering adding to make it
easier.

As an example you can use:
http://www.theaa.com/traffic-news/index.jsp?lat=51.375638&lon=-1.056748&z=11

If you don't know what coordinate to use then go to the Maps tab and
find your place and zoom to the level of detail you want to see.

There is then an option which says "Link to this map..."
This will show the current map coordinates and zoom level.

You then need to use these in the link I've given above.

I appreciate it is not the easiest to set up and we are looking to
improve this soon.

If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

It IS a bit clunky but if people are interested in a walk-through I might be persuaded to put one on my web site.
