Hi All
Basically need advice/help!
Going to use a PDA with CF GPS (sounds like I Know what I am talking about!!.....I dont!) together with a soaring/gliding programme called xcsoar. Friends have mentioned a PDA ipaq hx4700 because of picture resolution! it also has CF and SD ports good processor as well. Want to know really if they are talking a load of bull or not. Would it be a good kit. Not a lot of room in a cockpit so size plays an important part.
Would appreciate your advice/help/recommendations etc.

The 4700 is a great device, it was one of the first with the higher resolution screens even if it is a little dated by now. I use(d) a Holux GR-271 GPS receiver with my 4700 for quite some time a great receiver with a very low power consumption, these are difficult to source these days though.

A word of warning though, don't rely upon the GPS system for altitude information, you might come down to earth with a bang if you do as the accuracy isn't good enought for flight instrumentation, it will be fine for recording track, speed and heading though - Mike

alix 776 Thanks.

mikealder, thanks for info....point taken! I usually look out quite alot Laughing Out Loud. Friend also said that it was pretty good in sunshine. I would only be using it for the single purpose of GPS whilst flying!! Thanks for advice/help.

....mikealder. Would there be an equivalent 'newer' model out there that you think would do the job just well??
You must have a little knowledge about flying when you replied about altitude, traking, heading etc. Thanks

Global Sat BC-337 is worth considering if you really want to use the CF slot, otherwise I would advise you to get a Bluetooth GPS receiver and pair it to the iPAQ as these can be found much easier, for Bluetooth the GlobalSat BT-359 or the Holux-1000 are worthy contenders.

As for flying I tend to stick to the small aircraft An-124 (From Russia with love) - Mike
