From somebody working at TomTom:

Quote:
The change is because we've stopped providing phone, email and chat support for certain old devices.

I do not know what 'older' means but think it is equal to 'out of warranty'

This restriction is not, as yet, in North America. Key words: 'as yet'

Also, see here:

They stopped software bug fix updates for the x40 range well over a year ago.

On what evidence do you base that comment, please?

I think this is just the sort of thing we have to get used to as a our global 'Austerity Measures' * kick in.
TT are looking to make savings wherever they can, so less customer service is an easy target.

* aka: "Squeeze the poor, they've been getting ideas above their stations these last few years".

Support for older devices stops with almost every tech company.

Apple products, Microsoft software, PC makers etc etc.

Cars even, 3 year warranty then you are left to deal with any issues yourself!

Support doesn't last forever now you know!

True, but with those examples you can pay to have 'out of warranty support and repairs' by the relevant companies.

You have to pay, but you still get 'support' from the dealers and third parties, don't you?

On what evidence do you base that comment, please?

I base that on the last bug ridden update 9.058 being released in September 2010 and in spite of many requests for support and complaints, both directly to TomTom from myself and from reading the discussions here, many other users, nothing has been done to fix them.

And that was the last Navcore released for the XL LIVE as well - full of bugs, especially around connecting to HD Traffic and random reboots.

I can't say any more, but that does NOT mean they have stopped producing software updates for those models.

But to the general public it certainly DOES give that impression...
