what do the red and green lines indicate?

hi, running app. on Sony x10 , with Android 2.3.3. I'm still getting problems with the app closing down after 40 mins, but having re-installed the app. & unchecked the compass, it's something I've got used to & switch the app. back on every 40 mins.

Question... sometimes there is a single red line, or a single green line or indeed a double green line displayed on the map along the centre of the road. They aren't continuously displayed, and stop & start & change colours randomly. There is no camera displayed near them, so can you advise what they indicate?

It's Google's traffic service! Green means the road is clear, orange means it's a bit busy, red means it's very busy and/or stood still.
