Evil or Very Mad
Anyone else experiencing total loss of PGPW cameras and voices after updating TomTom maps? Totally fed up with having to reinstall everything each time the maps are updated. Sounds and voices revert to standard TomTom..............Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Yes..... to losing the SETTINGS for the POI voices etc.
No..... to losing the camera files voice etc. themselves

Is that what you meant? You only had to re-do the "warn when near" set up again, you didn't have to reinstall all the files, did you?

Newer models and software versions usually DO get it right now and transfer all the settings (although it still goes wrong sometimes) but it will probably never get sorted out for an old Go700.

But... regulars here will have seen loads of references to a way around re-doing all the settings again....
You need to backup the MapSettings, cfg file from the OLD map folder before the update.
Then, after the update, you put it back in the new folder.

70% of the time that works straight away
25% of the time it will cause re-booting issues, and you need to go to the emulator in Home and add a new Favourite or create a new route. That fixes it.
5% of the time you can't recover the old Favourites or settings and you have to just bite the bullet and put them in again.

and 10% of the time my maths doesn't add up....

Thanks Andy, much appreciated. Will try that workaround. Smile

I had the same issue (POI warnings disappearing) Mad

Had a search around the forums but I can't work out how to back up the mapsettings.cfg from a 1005 - please could someone advise how to do it. Thanks.

Possibly not the same issue.. the OP was complaining of total loss of the files... rather then loss of the warning settings (which is much more common.

I'm afraid there is no way to back up MapSettings.cfg on a Go1005 (or any of the other new "NAV3" models which use 'MyTomTom' to connect to the world).
TomTom have locked down the file system and the only way to access limited parts of it is by using MyTomTom. MapSettings. cfg is not one of those parts.

However, to be honest, I think you're the first person I've heard of who has lost their warning settings on one of the new models.

Thanks - I thought I was missing something obvious! The warnings and recent destinations disappeared around the time the fixed cameras were updated through MyTomTom, though I can't remember if it was exactly the same time - was hoping to find an easy way to restore them next time. If it's just a one off I won't worry (till next time! Wink )
