Thieves stole sat-navs when they broke into eight Sainsbury's delivery vehicles whilst they were parked at the rear of a store in the Foss Islands Retail Park, York.

The Traffic Master navigation systems will be of little use as the dash mounted display is just one part of the installation and use of the service requires a subscription.

The thieves also stole catalytic converters from the Mercedes vehicles. The resulting damage and stolen items have been valued at £20,000.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 0845 6060247 quoting reference number 12110190491.

To be clear, that's reference number twelve billion, one hundred and ten million, one hundred and ninety thousand, four hundred and ninety one.

That's a lot of unsolved crime in York.

Dales.

Probably '1211' is 12th November when it was first reported, then '0190491' will be a sequential number of each and every reported crime for the year.

Doesn't say whether it is solved or unsolved, it just gives a reference...

Since when has a 3.5 tonne sprinter been a lorry :-S

Cat theft from vans is becoming more common as you due to the weight and precious metals in them its on the rise from sprinters as there and other large vans as there easy to get at

Still, that's 190,491 crimes reported on that day then. Razz

no, it will be in the year. the date prefix usually just helps them find a reference quickly, the sequential number is usually per year. but for every single crime reported - even something as petty as a cover being knocked off a wing mirror etc.

if you've ever had to report a crime you'll probably get a similar reference number too.
