Hi Guys, May I pick your brains for some information please?

Apart from the NA maps and larger memory size, what are the differences between the Go740 Live and Go940 Live?

My 930 has the estimated position thingy when in a tunnel which my 720 doesn't have, so knowledge on any subtle differences such as this would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Ali.

The 940 also has the EPT. It also had the FM transmit of sounds and music but I think that functionality was changed in later software updates.

The larger memory is important (to me) as you can remove the NA maps and still run the new larger Europe maps that will now not fit on the 740 internal memory.

The 940 still has FM transmission of music from the mp3 player.

The 740 doesn't have an mp3 player at all.

-------------------------------

TomToms also used to be able to transmit the navigation instructions via FM, but that was removed with a software update in early 2009 (due to EU laws about FM transmissions having to be continuous not intermittent).

For a while there was a way round where you could still have nav. instructions over FM so long as your mp3 music was playing as well
(so it was also possible to 'cheat' and use a silent mp3 track on repeat!)

But I'm embarrassed and annoyed that I can't remember how it was achieved now, or whether TT stamped it out in another s/ware release.

As long as the 940 is playing something (music or silent mp3 set to repeat) and you have set the speaker preferences to use the FM Tx then the nav instructions get sent to the radio in the car via the FM.

Personally I far prefer the Bluetooth audio output for music and/ or nav instructions as the quality is far superiour and you don't have to keep re-tuning the frequency to avoid interference on a long trip - Mike

So it doesn't matter that the Loudspeaker settings menu for Navigation instructions is still set to "internal speaker"?

As do I.... but not that many car radios have BT facilities.

No - its disabled in my 940 ( navcore 8.371 ) . Although the 940 has an MP3 player for use via FM - its not possible to select Nav instructions . The last model range with the 'silent track' workaround was x30 . From memory TT didn't make this loss of feature clear at the time I upgraded from a 520 . But now that I have changed my car for one with USB , I replay radio podcast MP3's via a stick and have no use for FM.
Looking back FM was a pain - especially finding a clear frequency in London and the hassle of changing frequency on a long drive . When it was working , muting music for the nav instructions was fine - but I lost the thread during a talk show ! - so I now play the nav instructions from the TT over the podcast or CD.
