The latest European maps are available for download either from Garmin's new Lifetime Map update program or from the My Garmin site

Mmm, no A3 Hindhead Tunnel, which opens next week.

How long have they had to get this on the maps? Rolling Eyes

Hindhead Tunnel is not open yet...

It will be at least 6 months to a year before it appears on the maps. The new road that is South West of Reims in France which opened about 6 months ago has just appeared on this version of the maps.

There is a major road near Malaga Spain that has been open for several years and is shown on Google Maps that is not on the Garmin European Maps.

Hindhead opens next Wednesday, they've had 4½ years to get this sorted out, they knew the alignment and what was going to be done, so it was just a case of having a working one on file & the other ready to drop into place once it was done.

Not difficult, not rocket science. Rolling Eyes

Oh, the 2012 AA road atlas that I bought for £13 off of amazon, has it there and the old A3 removed, so to say it can't be done is utter tosh.

What we pay high fees for map updates for when these mapping companies can't do simple tasks like this, makes me cross. Twisted Evil

I assume that until Garmin can physically drive on the A3 through the Hindhead tunnel that they can't put the data on their systems. Wonder how GPS works in a tunnel though !!!!

HAs anyone else "lost" the Traffic Trends data with the latest update - mine has been deleted and no re-installed.

Can anyone confirm the file size of the gmapprom file - mine is 2,347,200 but I have seen a report of one which is 2,399,000 in size!

I've got two folders, 1 @ 1.93Gb + 1 @ 720Mb which is 2.65Gb (I think).

I'm using the Garmin Lifetime Updater, whether that makes any difference or not I don't know.

Responding to CWOG, I agree about the new road SW of Reims. It isn't on the 2012.1 map on my garmin unit, but when I ckd on the 2011 paper road atlas, I noticed that it is on, but marked as under construction, The map indicates that the expected opening will be during the last quarter of 2011. Perhaps this is an event rarely seen in the UK, that is, a new road ready and operating before its expected finish date. As it was neccessary to slow and momentarily stop on entering the new stretch of road, I took the opportunity to ask one of the yellow jacketed staff who were handing out publicity material about this new road, and he gave me to understand that it had only very recently opened. This was in the last week of June. Regards, Legalspeed.

I drove on the Reims new road in May and was entertained by the SatNav tracking over a blank space on the map and telling me to return to the recommended route and telling me to turn onto country lanes that the new road passed over.

I asked in a hotel in Reims about the road and was told that it been open about 3 months but that the people of Reims did not use the road as it was too expensive.

So there you go - either way, Navteq and Garmin were pretty fast in getting the road onto the systems.

gmapprom is 2,399,168kb on mine

After using Garmin Lirtime Mapupdater

gmaptz
gmap3d
JVC
traffic trend v4.25

files had been deleted I had to manually put them back in. the traffic trend is the D2925030A.G2S file you need to put it in a folder called G2S on your garmin in .System

all the extra files you need are in

C:/ProgramData-Garmin-LmuMaps-Eu.2012.20

Don't forget to show hidden folders Wink

Hi and welcome.

You have two options - if your Nuvi came with Lifetime maps or you have purchased a lifetime subscription then you can download Garmin's lifetime updater program.

The second and more stable option is to go to the My Garmin website (where you registered your Nuvi) and click on the Maps option. It will install a program called Garmin Communicator which enables Garmin to see if you are eligible for a free map update (within 90 days of first usage on the road). If you aren't eligible for free maps there is an option to purchase as a one off or as the lifetime option.

Be advised that the download is quite large and for Western Europe the maps are over 2GB in size

I reported the missing Hindhead Tunnel to Garmin last week as a map error, and they responded saying that it will be included in the 2013.10 map release (May 2012).

I've had similar feedback but I always go straight to the Navteq map reporter site with any updates / changes, as Navteq is the source of Garmin's maps.

It is also worth remembering that Navteq have to spend time consolidating data and locking down content before supplying it to Garmin, who also then spend time preparing the data for their models. Therefore, the "latest" maps will always be six months behind reality.

Garmin or Navteq seem to have a policy, in the UK at least, of not including roads which they haven't actually surveyed despite them being years in the planning and construction.

I'd take that with a very unhealthy dose on NaCl/Sodium Chloride. Rolling Eyes
