TomTom has just released v10.200 software for the GO 1000 / GO 1005 and some VIA models.

At last, the long promised ability to load POIs, voices, Warning sounds etc. has been implemented.

I've been lucky enough to have a sneak preview of this functionality, and it works well.
It's still a long slow process to load stuff, but even that may be improved soon.

Quote:
(GO 1000 series, Via series)

* Allows you to use MyTomTom to install third party POI sets, community voices, warning sounds, start-up and shut-down images, car symbols and colour schemes.
* Improves map installation process

This is what you should see in myTomTom now.

What format do the warning sounds have to be as it wont let me upload the .ogg sound files for the cams?

I'm using ogg files OK here.
There was some problem uploading them but I thought it had been sorted.
But you could try .wav?

I don't think mp3 are ever going to work.

I just tried it again and uploaded another .ogg sound file successfully, but I'm on a slightly earlier software version.

One thing to mention is that the sounds are not being sorted alphabetically, so check to see if they HAVE uploaded but just got buried in the list.

It doesn't actually provide you with any new map colour schemes, or icons, voices etc like the old Home used to do.

Got my ogg camera warning sounds on OK, tested and they work fine......just a shame I loaded the wrong set initially, just as slow to delete files as load them! Oh yeah, now have a retro start up splash screen from a previous device.

Are you scrolling down the page to "Community warning sounds on device +Add Warning Sound"?

Yes I was. I shut the pc down to go out when I came back I tried again and the option was there. Installed then deleted so I could rename them, I can now assign them without going through every single one to find the correct one.

Not had a chance to look at this, so instead of a page where you can get the voices like on the old tomtom now you just add poi and it gives you a list of voices pois , is this correct ?

Just had a go at uploading something into each category to see what would happen. I had a lot of personalised stuff in my old Go 950. I tried warning sounds, car symbols, map colour schemes, voices and a startup screen - they all seem to have gone in OK and are working.

It seems that TomTom are finally heading in the right direction with this. Still a few thigs that need adding, like Map Share and additional voices, but they're getting there.
