Yes. Hence the name MOBILE. They are the vans you see occassionally parked by the side of the road and on bridges. Inside is an operator with a laser speed gun. By the time you see it it's probably too late.

Because of their mobile nature they are not always there. PGPSW uses "Seen Again" reports to keep currently used sites live in the database and those that aren't reported as Seen Again for some time are removed.

They are included in many speed camera "systems" but some omit them because of the number of false "removal" requests it generates when people ask to delete them just because the camera wasn't there at the time and date they passed...

Out of interest what was your old system?

Surely this is an exaggeration? Surely not EVERY bridge?

Also, have you by any chance got your warning settings wrong? Maybe distance/Time too great? Maybe "Ignore Direction Data" is ON? Maybe the Advanced warning parameters too great? One of the fantastic features about CamerAlert is the extent to which it can be configured by the user - nobody else does it so well.

ok maybe a little bit of an exageration but lets say 75%, which is still a pain when there isn't a single mobile camera anywhere on the A12 or A120 in Essex, they were obviosly there when major roadworks were going on, i get the warnings about 100 yds before the bridges and all clear 100 yds after

If you're that confident, then you only have to change your Sound Warnings settings - simply untick the two cameras to warn about, Mobile and Unverified, then you won't get any warnings for the mobiles that you say are not there. You should be safe enough, if you're right - 75% of them don't exist and the remaining 25% will never be there at the same time as you.

But I have to say that there are an awful lot of PGPSW members who don't share your level of disbelief in the database. How would you feel if you submitted a report of a mobile camera to us and we rejected it on the grounds that there wasn't a mobile van there when we went to look for it? In the last two weeks, I drove 2,595 miles and saw either two or three mobile camera vans operating, aimed at me. They WERE included in the database, so I was warned before I reached them. All the other warnings I had were for camera vans which were NOT there and that's a lot more than 75%. Last year (I think) as a Verifier I refused adamantly to accept a mobile camera van location on an overbridge on the M4 near Swindon. I drove off the motorway twice and even took and published photographs to prove that there was no way a van could park and operate on that bridge without seriously disrupting local traffic. Then two months later I drove the motorway and was gutted to see the bluddy van operating there!! I think we have warnings for every overbridge on the M4 near Swindon - ridiculous, innit? But I have personally seen and reported "seen again" ALL the mobile vans operating on ALL those bridges at one time or another during the last two years.

Have a read of THIS. The subject comes up quite regularly and the eventual conclusion is to believe the database by default.

i have been running CameraAlert with Google Navigation on my wildfire for a few months now with no problems whatsoever.

My only tip is to update the database via wifi as it is far quicker than 3g.
