What one is paying for is the fact that there is a site which hosts accurate data. I've never had a problem with you charging and moved from the free version to a subscription version. The people who complain about the charge will also be the first to scream about inaccurate data.

You will see the same names cropping up in the Lifetime awards every week. Which means that there is plenty of opportunity to get a life time subscription with just a small amount of effort, probably less than pirating the database in the first place!

Hey, PGPSW boss man... That "Work for Free" sign you've got looks just what I need.
Can you post it to me ASAP? (pref. first class, I'm a busy man).

As I knocked it up in Photoshop and so own the rights I'd be happy to. But first I will need a signed purchase order from you or cash up front Wink

I'm sorry but my breif says that looks like a patent Standard Carboard Box Lid™. I'm not sure you have the right to be making modifications to it?

One point worth mentioning - You only need to see the list of those already lifetime members who still continue to contribute to realise the value they place in a pooled effort. They hope that those members who have yet to submit anything ( or did so ages ago ) would do so if they spotted something new - and I/we don't intend to let them down.

Don't do much mileage myself, but wise enough to spend £19.99 a year on subscribing to the database.
When all is said and done, it's only 5.5p per day, a lot less than a packet of cigarettes (£5.78 per day, £2,109.70 per year) or a pint of beer (don't know how much because I do not drink).

Damn good value if you ask me Smile

I'm afraid the posts and 'reasoning' you get to see are just symptomatic of the freeloading society we have in the UK - and elsewhere.
Everyone seems to think they know their "rites" but none of them know their responsibilities, and don't even consider they have any.
Everythng is always some one elses responsibility. "Not my fault mate".

Easy for me to say, but ignore them, or better still, why not post a database to the pirate sites riddled with false and misleading data, and attribute it to some of the whingers.

Bob

Absolutly agree

£20 for a years subscription for something that could well save £60 or whatever it is now, not to mention the possibility of losing your licence if you're close to getting the full set of points? Damned good value.

Probably the cheapest insurance available in the UK.

There are two points as far as I am concerned.

There must be a hell of a lot of work in maintaining the database. If this work was not carried out then we would only get new cameras added and the database would end up so large it would not fit on many PNDs. Who wants a million cameras on their devices, 900,000 of which no longer exist.

The second point is, if they want the database for free then start reporting cameras!

No pain, no gain! Laughing

But we only have just under 11,000 in our database. Nowhere near the 100,000 that you suggest as reasonable Very Happy Very Happy

Your joking, 11,000? And they are quibbling about paying.

Would they look after 11,000 database entries for nothing?

I think not!

Actually its nearer 30,000 camera locations for PGPSW as the database covers much more than the UK (info taken from iPhone CamerAlert app) - Mike

I'm retired, on a very low pension and I use my tomtom twice a year when going away on holiday, other than that it lives on my desk for 49 weeks of the year and I quite happily pay for the database.
