When I went to a little vacation recently, I notied, that telmap is unable to calculate a route from Germany to Italy.

I think the only real advantage of a smartphone over a real GPS Nav is, that you are always able to calculate a route, regardless of your location. I make a trip to the US, and, dont have to care about getting a car with built in Navigation, because I have my blackberry with me.
For local navigation, I normally do not need a Navigation tool at all (with exclusion to speed-cam alerts)

In addition, Germany is a very very very small country.

I could get a Car Sat nav for about Euro 100, coverage: Europe.

From a Navigation for a smartphone I would expect the whole world, but, at the very least, Europe.

What is planned in the final version for the maps coverage ?

TIA

Wow, you're really trying to upset some people I know Very Happy

I just tried plotting a route from Hamburg airport to Monza and it worked for me. What happens when you try to find a route?

I used Telmap in Germany last week without trouble. Also used in France, Netherlands & Belgium in the recent past without issue.

Hello 911,
Telmap5 indeed does support cross-continent routing from Germany to Italy and longer than that.
The version distributed to the User Group allows navigation across Europe, North America, parts of APAC and Middle East.

If you are able to navigate at all - then getting a route from Germany to Italy should be no problem.
If you were not able to get a route from Germany to Italy then it might have been a temporary glitch, or networking issue or something.

One thing that comes to mind - you need to ensure that your SIM card is enabled for roaming. Telmap5 is a fully server based system so we need a wireless internet connection in order to provide you with routes.

Feel free to contact me at our support email of tugadmin at Telmap dot com.

Thank you,
I now tried again to check what is happening:
I can calculate a route from Germany to italy, however, only if I choose the destination by searching in the Map.

What is not working is entering an address.
Whatever i enter, it will not resolve to an address, but only to a POI which is in germany,
also, the search dialog explicitly tells me:
"Suche nach Adresse, Kategorie, Ort oder Firma in Deutschland"
= Search for an address, category, town, business in Germany

How can I enter an Address correct so that it searches not the POI database if the street is not found, but a foreign country ?

(of course roaming is on)

HI 911,
I think I understand what is happening.
When you open the search box - there is a flag underneath it.
That flag represents the country in which the search will be performed.
If you want to search in Italy you need to change the country by clicking that flag and setting to Italy.
Hope that helps.
Tks

The flag is there on the 9800 but I know when I used to use the 9700 version you needed to change the country in the settings within search (hit the blackberry key). Not sure if that's still the case with the more recent versions on the 9700. Confused

Thank you,
you are right, hitting the BB-key brings up a menu where you can change the country you search in.

Even I think I should have found this, if I had examined the application a little more thoroughly, it is something that does not make the usage of the program easy.
A little help text in the line "klick the XX key to change your search country" would make things better.
Also, you cannot press the Enter key to execute the search. This also is a little not blackberry-like.

Wink
