Northbound (towards the tunnel) the average speed cameras have a sign at the bottom of their post saying "cameras not in use" so they are not switched on yet.

Most traffic going over the bridge (southbound) now seem to stick to the average speed "50 mph" so I would say they are now switched on.

Hi Guys

I went both ways today and all the Cameras not working signs have been removed and all the grey paint on the camera signs is also removed as well, so its better to be safe and asume they are now all working, still like to know how they work out the average on the last bit of the bridge before the tolls when the speed changes from 50 to 40 between 2 sets of cameras though.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the observations.

One possibility is that the section where the speed changes (i.e. in between the two sets of cameras) is not active.

Another less likely possibility is that the authorities have actually taken into account the speed change and know the accurate distance of x metres @ 50 mph and y metres @ 40 mph to give a lower average speed for that section. However I don't know whether any SPECS system has approval for speed changes that take place between sets of cameras and not level with a set of cameras.

Whatever is happening at the Dartford Bridge, it would be best to keep within the speed limits.

Regards,

just spotted this on another forum quoting an e-mail reply fron the Highways Agency

"The average speed enforcement system on the QE2 Bridge is in the process of being commissioned and tested. The speed camera warning signs have been uncovered in preparation for Essex Safety Camera Partnership to begin enforcing the speed limit over the bridge. Motorists will be made aware prior to the system being made operational."

he meant if you believe he was referring to your joining date you'll believe anything. I don't think he was doubting the validity of your joining date.

That's absolutely right Anita. Of course tcm17 can have joinedf in 2002. I wasn't disputing that, or anything.

Let me explain. I thought to myself "This thread seems to have been going on a long time. Let me find out when it started" So I went to the first post and misread your joining date of 2002 instead of the date of the first post as 2010.

The comment about believing anything was meant to convey the fact that I was making an excuse for getting the date of the first post wrong. Perhaps I should have phrased it "If you believe my excuse, you'll believe anything".

I made the comment 13 months ago and if I have upset you, which I obviously have, by you misinterpreting what I meant over a year ago, I humbly apologise and beg your forgiveness. Pretty please.

In that case can I be 'Grumpy Old Woman', please, as I seem to be earning the title more and more lately?
