Hi everyone,

As a newbie I feel compelled to apologise for the previously asked and daft questions that I'm bound to ask. Very Happy

For my first question has anyone managed to load POIs to the unit I have? I have tried Garmin but they are pretty non-commital. They have confirmed that I need .bmp, .wav and .csv files though.
If anyone has any tips to ensure I don't blow up my new prized possession I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Doing well so far! Laughing

But unless someone else has moved it already, this seems like as good a place as any to put a Garmin question. Smile

Have a look on the Speed camera download page for instructions on adding those, because loading ANY POIs is done in exactly the same way.
There's a list of Kenwood models in the green chart and a link to the instructions in the right-hand column.
It doesn't actually list the 9260BT, but it does have the 9240BT, and I bet they are similar.

Let us know if you have any problems , or even if you don't! (So we can add that model to the list).

A quick search shows it can be done - see this thread. However these units have a habit of changing the fine details between model numbers - such as folder and filename capitalisation.

Well I can confirm that the camera alerts work on the above model. Admittedly I have only just managed to get them loaded so I have only driven past a mobile site but that worked fine. The icon popped up and Mr Nick Perry was kind enough to tell me in case I didn't notice. Brilliant Clap

This model can now be added to the supported list you provide (free subscription?? Rolling Eyes ).

The files have to be .bmp, .wav and .csv all with the same names as described elsewhere in this forum. The sox.exe file detailed in various posts has to be used as well. If anyone wants help with loading to the unit I will try.

Thanks to all that offered advice and the other posts on the forum.

In for a penny in for a pound I'm going to try to put European and Uk Speed POIs on at the same time along with the 'various interest' POIs Db. Are there any voice alerts for EU as the file names have 'UK' in them? Worst case I could simply 'rename'. Let you know how it goes.

PS Went through a few more camera sites today with icons and alerts coming up correctly, (although the icons are a bit small, might have to go for the larger size). All good stuff. Very Happy

Okay a quick update. So far the UK and European cameras are not going so well. It gives the icon and audio warning but the visual alert warning pops up in the well documented 19mph = 30kph issue.

I'm currently in a running battle with Garmin support to resolve this due to the fact they supply combined UK/EU maps and its their POI Loader making selection of both metric and imperial impossible. We shall see what happens and I'll post the results.

Normally with Garmin models you load both like this. However I'm not sure how it works with the Kenwood models. You could try preparing both files on the pc and transferring both on the same SD Card / CD.

Thanks Paul. I have tried the various methods described; changing the POI file names etc. The POI Loader manages to load up my SD card with both files (UKPOI and EUPOI) but the Kenwood does not seem to recognise the name and therefore will not load the file. As soon as I go back to a simple 'POI' file it loads okay.

If anyone has an idea for this I would be very interested, otherwise I await words of wisdom from Garmin!!!

The only way I can see you do it is with two SD Cards like this. Label one UK and the other Europe. Take the UK database and run it through POILoader set to MPH. Save the POI.GPI file to the Uk card. Now repeat for the European database but with POILoader set to KPH. Save the database to the European card. Load the UK card when in the uk and the European on when in Europe.

The Kenwood units will not accept anything except Poi.GPI as a filename so this is the only way possible to do it.

Thanks Paul. I have waited this long to reply in the hope that Garmin would reply with a fix but I think they have given up. I have gone down the route you suggest now, after all its not that difficult to load anyway, so its two cards for me from now on. Thanks for the advice along the way though, much appreciated. Very Happy
