In the middle of completing/filling in/filling out a long complicated registration document on the internet yesterday, my wireless router dropped dead.

So I rang Virgin who are sending me a new one anyway on Monday when they upgrade me to 30MB broadband, to ask them what type it was - mine was an N1 MIMO which worked beautifully and I could take my laptop etc out to the bottom of our long garden and still use it in the summerhouse. When I asked how far it would shine, the guy said Oh it's a good one, 25 to 26 feet, which is just about the length of our house, so it might struggle to reach from upstairs front corner computer room to back downstairs dining table!! When I first talked to them about upgrading to 30MB, they said that I could still add my own router to the new modem/router combined "super hub".

So to keep my distance reach, I went off to buy a new one and came away with an Apple Time Capsule to go with my iMac, MacBook Pro and iPhone. But Vera persuaded me I could also treat myself to an iPad. So now I seem to have the lot. It took me until bedtime last night (and I missed the footie on telly Evil or Very Mad ) to get most things working again and go back to finally complete that form.

Today, I took the iPad out with me and I really can't understand how I managed to live without one before now! I had a call from the registration people saying one of the documents I had sent was not satisfactory, so I popped into Strensham Services, looked up the earlier email I'd received from my insurance brokers and forwarded the whole thing to them from the iPad. Now that's magic, innit? And the iPad is so much better at internet legibility and typing than iPhone.

The only thing I haven't got (yet?) is access to my IMAP Sent emails box - I have to look at them on the desktop at home, so although it did "Whooosh", I couldn't check the Sent box to see the email had gone (anybody know how to get it onto the iPad?).

It's even got a link to the iPad user manual!

Finally farewell Windoze, I'm already forgetting how you work on Vera's Netbook (intermittently)!

settings / mail, contacts, calendars / [select your account]

on the 'window' that pops up press the account name again (it should say 'IMAP' just above it

scroll down and click on 'advanced'

then select 'sent mailbox' and then make sure you select the 'sent' folder 'on the server'

you could also change drafts and trash to the server folder then you will have access to it all on any IMAP email client.

Ah. I'm using an SMTP outgoing server, so when I get back from Oxford I'll have to look at how to change that for all my accounts. (Unless I'm talking rubbish - maybe I'll have a look at iPad at Oxford to see if you've put me right). Sad

doesn't matter, it will still copy sent items to the IMAP folder.

to actually view the sent items folder you need to go back to the main mailbox list within the email app by pressing the top left 'Mailboxes' button. In there you will have 'Inboxes' and 'Accounts'

in the Accounts list click on the relevent account and it will then show you ALL the folders that are available.

to get back to normal inbox click on 'mailboxes' then reselect the Inbox you want

Nothing beats the Bradford Jesus Man for sandal-based fashion!
