Hi all,
Found this forum last week so newbie here and my 1st post so go gently with me, I have scanned the forum for a week now but failed to find answers to my questions which are for a T T GO 7100. Which I am thinking off buying. (Or is there a better one out there).

I would select and wire to the line-out socket of the T.T. from my car radio, and just listener to the radio, would I still get a warning sound from the car radio speakers when within range of a safety camera over the top of the music, I just use the pictures on the T.T. to navigate to my destination, so:-

A/ Does the volume control on the T.T. alter the level of the sound from the line-out Socket and the B.T. or is it just a fix low level signal that if it was wired to a car Radio, One would use the car radio volume control to alter the sound level from the car radio speakers

B/ Does the safety camera warning sound when the volume is turned down or off on the T.T.

C/ Can you play music files from your T.T. SDHC via the car radio with out the Navigation instructions.

I hope I make myself clear.

Many thanks.

Can you confirm the exact model you are looking at as your post includes both the 710 and 7100 which are both TomTom devices.

With the 710 you can connect the line out socket to the cars audio system or use the Bluetooth output assuming your vehicle supports the A2DP Bluetooth protocol, this device will fully support the PGPSW speed camera database but the device itself is rather old.

The 7100 is a rather different device, its intended for use in heavy goods vehicles and attracts a considerable price hike as a result, the only way to get audio output is via an accessory cradle, bluetooth audio output isn't supported by the device, you currently can't use the PGPSW speed camera database on this product, TomTom did promise to add this missing capability by the end of January, this target has been missed.

If you want mp3 player support on the device consider the 530, 730, 930 or the 940 (if you can find one) the newer devices from TomTom have dropped add ons such as music players and with their locked down file system there is nothing you can do to add mp3 player software to it.

What type of vehicle do you drive and if music is important to you then you will be looking at the x30/ 940 range of devices which are still available from TomTom via their refurb outlet store - Mike

Many thanks for your speed reply Mike the TT I am looking at is the GO710 with a small Blue card in the underside, the music side is ok as I have a direct connection to my radio and works fine, so forget mp3 side of things but I would be interested in PGPSW speed camera data base later.

I think the Bluetooth protocol will work with the parrot system I now have for the phone (with your hififix mod).

But most important is there a mod to turn the navigation instructions off and still get a speed camera warning over the radio speakers via Bluetooth or via the line-out socket

The car is a VW Golf and the phone works ok and so does my mp3 player.

Many thanks Mike.

Add the silent voice file to the voices folder then use Change Preferences/ Manage Voice/ Switch voice to select the silent voice from those presented.
If you are wondering where to get the silent voice files from, have a look in your e-mail inbox ;) - Mike

Hi Mike thanks for that, I have copied the files to the 710, but don't have a Manage Voice choice on this TT710, only Volume Preference (no good)& Speaker Preference (also no good).

Now what.

There should be a switch voice option in the preferences menu, make sure you have got all the preferences menu pages showing there should be about 7 pages in total, if its only showing three pages look for the "Show All menu options" icon and tap that - Mike

Try the "Change Voice" option then, if it says something about only offering voicing in the UK langauge answer NO as you need them all listed in order to pick up the silent voice - Mike

Mike, at last I have found it in /Change Voice.and select /All languages. go through them all and there it was the last one. Laughing

Now with this selected, and a short route planed there will be no route instructions from any speakers, but a warning as I approach a safety camera, is that correct .

Once again many thanks for your time & info.

BinB.

That's a slightly worrying bit....

You can get the TT audio out of the line-out socket, and if your radio has a line-in socket, you'll be able to hear it over the car speakers; but AFAIK there are very few (if any) car radios themselves that will play the radio and play the TT sound over the top of it. There's usually just a switch to select ONE of the sound sources - radio cd bluetooth, line input etc.

However, I think your Parrot system should be able to achieve it.

Some of the other questions are a bit tricky to give definite answers for as TT changed things in different software versions.

The FM output (only available using an accessory FM mount with the x10 models) used to be variable using the TT's own volume control. But on later software it was fixed at full level.

I think the Bluetooth audio out was always at fixed level.

If you select the Bluetooth output, you can play music from the internal mp3 player/SD card and have it "dip" when a navigation instruction or POI warning comes through.

But you don't get that option on the FM output.

The use of the BT audio output should sort out the TomTom audio being played over the radio/ CD sound as that will switch via the Parrot, my iO-Play device does exactly this.

The 710 doesn't have an mp3 player capability unless one adds third party software to it and even then its not fully integrated with the software in the same way you get with the 910/ x20/ x30/ 940 devices.

From the x10 product family only the 910 had the mp3 player. The 710 can control and play music via an iPOD assuming you can locate the necessary accessory cable which becoming are very rare these days - Mike

Hi Andy,
Thanks for you help, I meant MUTE/DIP the car radio not play over the top.

The Parrot is a CK3000 and works fine with my Nokia phone but the TT will require the Hififix mod for the Parrot to see it.

I have the mount with the Audio Out socket, but will try the BT first.

Can I load the SD Card on the TT with mp3 files and play it over BT to my radio via the Parrot with a mod to the TT, as Mike said it requires third party soft ware, however there is a music file in this TT which if I could use it I would.

Thanks.

Doh! Embarassed That's the second time in two days I've been fooled by them having one user manual that covers the whole range.

Although in this case, if I'd read it properly it clearly says "Playing music and looking at photos strored on your GO is only supported on the GO 910."

I'll get my coat. Confused
