Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I've got a Tom Tom Rider (original) for my bike and a Tom Tom Go 750 Live for my car. Every time I download a new map to either of the devices, I lose the PocketGPS World Camera Warnings, and have to manually set up each particular camera type which is a very laborious task. Is there a file in the device on which these settings are stored which I can copy & paste across after the new maps have been downloaded.

Many thanks
Chunky

Look for 'MapSettings.cfg' in the old map folder. Save it.
After the new map is installed, copy that file to the new map folder (overwriting the new one.

Normally works fine, but if it causes re-booting you can either
1. connect to TT Home and add a new favourite
2. remove it again.

Assuming you have a backup copy the mapsettings.cfg file can be copied to the new map installation.

If the unit then continuously reboots you can try using the Operate My GO function in Home to add a favourite. If that doesn't work you might have to delete the file and start again.

BTW this has been asked numerous times and a search might have been quicker to find the answer! Wink

mapsettings.cfg would indicate iPhone app by TomTom.

MapSettings.cfg indicates a standalone Nab unit from TomTom.

The spelling is important though, if you put the wrong one on a device the software will ignore it - Mike

I use a GO 720, and have had this 'lost settings' frustration with TomTom every time I update my maps. I have tried copying and pasting mapsettings.cfg into the Western Europe map file every which way, I have tried the 'create a favourite using Home' route to generate a mapsettings file, all to no avail. As soon as I add in the 'old' mapsettings file, the device goes into a mode where it switches itself off once it is midway through its bootup routine.

Is there anything about a 720 that prevents this fix from working; or does anyone have any experience with a 720 that might help me? Thanks; I'm bald enough already, this is removing the final strands of my thatch!

Only thing I can think of is - Are you disconnecting from the computer properly?

Click Device... Disconnect Device...

When it says OK to disconnect, DO NOT disconnect. Click the OK button then wait for the device to boot up again. When it asks if you wish to connect to computer choose NO, then wait for the device to complete loading, then when it shows the map normally, switch off and disconnect.

PS A poke down the reset hole never does any harm.

I'm not going to make friends here.... Laughing

How often do you update the maps?

Re-building the entire MapSettings.cfg settings from scratch takes me about 10 minutes, even re-doing all the PGPSW camera warnings.
Even if you bought every single map update that's only 10 minutes every three months.

As there is very little improvement in each successive map, I would only update once a year or so. Ten minutes a year doesn't seem too bad to me!

Quicker than loading up Home, adding a Favourite, disconnecting and finding it still doesn't work.

But I have to agree with you. My only problem is that when it happens to me, I have always forgotten that it happens, so I'm away down the motorway before it suddenly strikes me that all is quiet, so I have to find the next Service Area to put it right, or on ordinary roads a convenient layby (and when can you find a layby when you need one?).

Go to the top of the class, Dennis!

Thank you, all. Avoiding physically disconnecting and adding a Favourite worked a treat.
