I have been unable to install “My Tom Tom” on either of my two 64bit machines running Vista Home Premium SP 2.

The message I receive is “Driver PreInstall64.exe” has stopped working.

The details show APPCRASH with a fault in module DIFXAPI.dll

Having waited over a month for a response from Tom Tom Support I am now told that the fault is at my end. Apparently “The errors you are receiving would indicate that the dll file is probably missing or corrupted”

On both machines !?

Has anybody had a similar situation loading this application or is it really “My Fault”

Also, has anybody got any idea how to fix it !!!!

Reading this: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/difxtools.mspx

It actually looks like it is TomTom's error. The DIFx stuff is part of the Windows Development Kit for developers to create .msi files to simplify installation. Perhaps their 64-bit install file is corrupt?

You should be very thankful that TomTom even deigned to reply, in my experience with them, if they either can't or don't want to resolve a problem they tend to ignore it completely Rolling Eyes

MaFt

That is what's bothering me. I believe this is a program fault, but unless others have experienced the same I have no evidence !! Mad

you could always send them that link that describes that the missing dll is actually part of their msi file?

Hi

Could be the copy you downloaded was corrupt a download error. Even if you down load it again unless you have deleted the previous file it will see that one and not down load again.

Suggest you clear or move all your downloaded tomtom files then have a fresh start. remember to clear your temp file too.

( run %temp% ) the select all and delete all it should say that 3 or 4 files cant be deleted as they are in use.

Thanks Exportman,

Worth a try, but unforunatly didn't make any difference. Still getting this error message.

MaFt - May try to throw it back to them, but I can't understand that no one has had the same problem.

This is the 100x/Via range using MyTomtom, so you can access very little. No experience of this, but you would seem to have to remove MyTomtom and reload it to try to clear it?

Believe me I have removed it and reinstalled dozens of times.

With the same result !!

I just downloaded it onto a 32bit laptop running Vista SP2 (not mine so it's not the answer) and all was fine.

Something tells me this is something to do with 64bit Vista and TomTom program.

But why no one else ?

Send it back and demand a full refund due to their inability to fix this issue. There is very little assistance you will get from any internet forum with this issue as everything is dependent upon the PC connection through "MyTomTom" If that won't work you are left with two choices:

1/ Keep the device and put up with no updates or new maps
2/ Send it back and get something else that doesn't depend upon crap software.

The approach from TomTom is pretty pathetic to be honest, over a month and then blame something outside of their control, the device is dependent upon their software that won't work on your PC, simples get a refund and stop wasting your time - Mike

I agree with Mike - not fit for purpose springs to mind if they cannot offer a fix.
