after a bit of faffing around now fitted
BUT i am wondering regards the fit/seal long tem.

its the fitting/mating of the seal around that i have my
doubts about.
Now that it is fitted having to unzipzip every time i need to change cards and and charge the battery pack i wonder regards long term viability

Yes it is a bit fiddly to fit and I too wonder about the sealing at the sides of the flap,it does get easier after a time or two.

You have to make sure all is seated correctly after the wire clip is applied although once this is done everything appears to stay in place.I wonder if it would have been better with some sort of waterproof zip instead of the clip.

As for charging etc. you need to pull the case slightly away from the unit at the bottom when exposing the rubber flap or else there is a danger that the flap might get torn off.A bit of a faff to recharge it but I can't see they could do it any other way.To charge "through" the case would have affected the weatherproofing I suppose. It's a pity it can't be charged by dropping it into a cradle and be charged by induction like some other gadgets then there would be no need to open the case at all,but no GPS seems to do that so presumably there is a reason.

As far as maps go,I had all my maps put onto one card so I don't have to keep swapping map cards.

I found it a bit fiddly to fit the shield, but seems to make a good seal eventually. The down side is having to remove it for cards and batteries. This is every day walk for me since I do up to 18 miles at a time.

One thing I noticed was that on low battery my GPS fix was lost a couple of times, which was not an issue before. Could this be because of the shield covering the recievers? I know no tech stuff but surely an additional barrier is in place with the shield? Which might affect the GPS when used in other limiting conditions, ie, from inside a car?

I plan to buy a pack of the new rechargable Energizer 2650mAh batteries, but find they are very expensive at the moment. In my estimation they should add up to half an hour onto the life of the present 2500mAh set I use. Could they add to the performance of an Active 10 with a shield?

in response to a fellow Tyke I would suggest purchase the chargeble battery.
If set up to switch off after a limited time and turn back on so you can ascertain position battery life is fairly good
the other thing that gets me is that the reversible fixing bracket - i thought initially that it was fixed permanetly - but looking again its going to take an awful amount of pulling to get it shifted

Try these out http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=108409 they are the best batteries I've ever used and only £4.59 delivered.

I found it firm enough to stay in place but not at all difficult to remove and reverse. But agree the who thing is a bit fiddly. It is also recommended that you use the AA battery back for best fit. Has anyone tried it with the recharable back.

Not quite with you there Gibbo, the AA battery and the rechargeable ( I presume you mean Li-Pol ) both use the same back.

Or do you mean the slimline battery pack ?

If so Satmap don't recommend its use with the Proshield case.

Yes you need to use a standard battery back, a slimline battery back or mount battery back will not fit correctly according to satmap.

Thanks for that. A great price compared to the £13 for 4 I had seen for the other brand. I'll order a set in the New Year. Sorry, I am a bit off topic here. I like rechargable AAs because they will charge in around an hour and I carry a spare set.
