Southernersoftypants stuff!!

Demo route from 51.414751, -2.498040 to 51.412242, -2.492852 will take you over four painted mini roundabouts which were created simply by painting on the road junctions, no new minor road reconstruction, kerbs, tarmac etc.

The following appear on Google Earth, but not in my maps...

51.418157, -2.504302
51.416021, -2.499815
51.414033, -2.497857

I thought TeleAtlas ignored ALL mini-roundabouts, only mapping any ones where you physically can't drive over them.

At least that's always been my experience around London and the SE..

There are some roundabouts near me that people have driven over which they should have gone around ( look at the tram lines over the top ).Thats what I call skill Smile NOT. May be following their sat navs.

The UK&RoI map v855 was 213mb, v860 is 241mb. I know DennisN does a lot of miles each week so would welcome any observations he [or anyone] has on what the extra 28mb has provided?

I can't be sure because I tend to tinker with the files in my map quite a lot but if you compare the sizes of poi.dat and crpoi.dat between the two map versions does this account for most of the extra size? If so they have added a lot of POI information and not much else.

The roundabouts here and here were reconstructed and removed about a year to a year and a half ago. Changes that are relected on the v860 maps, but nowhere else (google, TomTom Route planner etc) other than on the Navteq site.

STILL a few errors for one way roads etc, roads that havent been one way for years. All reported via the device and Teleatlas online.

Noticed some changes in the POI catagory (not sure if they were included before) such as Beuity, Bus Station, Truck Stop and service for example. Not sure if they were included in the past. Confused

Perhaps the extra space has been contrabuted from IQ Route data, now the Live/HD devices have been around a few years now?

For info there is also a permanent 50mph speed limit on the M60 which is enforced by average speed cameras.

Wish I knew how to do quotes properly!

Cheers jack.

Just above each posting is a 'button' with "quote" on it. Looks like this.

Click that and your 'Post a Reply' window opens with the quoted text already in place. Just edit out any text you don't want, add your reply underneath, review and submit.

Job done. Smile

Just a general question here regarding the 860 Map update.

My Map Upgrade Subscription for my 520 ran out in September this year, so I have not been offered the new map (UK & Irish Republic.)

My question is - has the map changed significantly over the previous one and is the consensus that it is worth paying for a new subscription, bearing in mind that I only cover between 8k & 10k miles a year, mostly on the same routes?

Thanks for any comments.

I wonder how long it will take this bunch to put the new A3 Hindhead Tunnel?

If they can't get simple & minor updates right, what chances do we have of them getting a major one right 1st time around May 2011? I'd put it at around 20% or less.

Actually I'd probably almost nearly put money on a change like that being in the very next map. Major changes to the A1 seem to be included quickly.

I am surprised that an organization like Morrison's is not putting pressure for the first location to be updated - this is a major development of their estate in Dundee. However, little of the development along the Arbroath Road has been filled in even some four years after completion.

Looking at the POI's provided with the UK & ROI version 860 maps I notice that tomtom have added a POI category for Embassy.

Further investigation show that the Embassy category includes an entry for "Jobcentre plus". Is this because tomtom expect that the jobcentre is likely to be the next stop after the embassy for asylum seekers? Rolling Eyes

The category also, helpfully, includes 14 entries called simply "Government Building", surely all embasies are government buildings?
