I appreciate that the database has POI's of where speed traps are likely to be set up, however when I saw one today I thought is there a better way of highlighting this to fellow road users (apart from parking up the road and waving at all who pass)?

I only have a vague idea of how Twitter works but I wondered if it would be possible for PGPSW to run a twitter feed of live traps by "twitters" from members who spot them (as many users can "twitter" from and receive feeds to their mobile phones).

No idea if this is possible or would be useful to the majority. What we need is a "traffic" service, that updates satnav devices in real time, but for live speed traps. Now that'd be useful.

Both Garmin and Tomtom live devices can report temporary speedtraps. It's a common application for many smartphones as well.

I never knew that. How do I get it on the TomTom? and where do they get the info from?

TomToms live speed trap reporting is woeful, utterly pointless (as is theri fixed camera data TBH). The live reporting comes from other users.

AFAIK it is only available as part of the LIVE services package.

We are looking at offering live reporting as part of our CamerAlert app but it only comes useful when you reach a core number of users.

As far as the usefulness on TomTom Live devices, I'd agree with Darren. I seldom saw one noted when I still used my 740. And it was for Live models only.

@Darren, that's good to know. User density (and not meaning their intelligence or lack thereof Stop it! ) would certainly be a problem to deal with. But with PGPSW's camera file already generally considered the best available for TomTom's and other pnd's, including temporary sneaky locations would be another big plus.

Have you submitted a "Seen Again" report? This is important to keep the database live.

Maybe it might be a possible means whereby pgpsw can use the "seen again" to generate a transmission similar to the one which says we are not using the latest database?

No mobile icon on database. It was three motorcycle coppers with a speed gun on the A272 / A24 crossroads. Doubtful if it's a regular spot, they were there for about half an hour as it's a busy crossroads for motorbikes our for a blast on a sunny Sunday (which is what I was doing yesterday).

Traffic Officers don't just set up anywhere, there are criteria to follow for suitable locations so you can be sure this is a spot they use on occasion.

We do request reports for these sites and they are classed as Mobile, please report it.

It seems to be an odd location for a regular speed trap as there are fixed cameras about 1/2 a mile further down the A24, plus a red-light camera on the junction.

And three motorbikes? Seems a bit over the top and not very good use of resources. Maybe more like "Let's chase the wicked bikers with dodgy number plates and exhausts!"
