An enhancement probably missed by most users is that BaseCamp can use even downloaded "official" Garmin maps for planning purposes. So now every Garmin map or delivery method is supported for use within BaseCamp as far as I know.

According to a Garmin Q&A:
"The current versions of the Garmin BaseCamp application allows for preloaded, downloaded or preprogrammed (ie, SD card) maps, from Garmin, to be displayed in the application.

To view the map data:

1. Connect your Garmin device or insert a preloaded SD card into your computer's SD card slot
2. Open BaseCamp
3. Click View
4. Click Map Products
5. Select the appropriate map product from the list1

After selecting a map product from the list the maps should be viewable in BaseCamp.

1Some maps may take an extended amount of time to display in BaseCamp.

*Printing of maps may be restricted.

Last modified on: 11/02/2010"
