Hi all;

New to this thing; been reading the TomTom forum and it has been a great help; lots of friendly people here!

Anyhow; had my TomTom Go for almost 2 weeks now(bought from www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk ; fantastic bit of kit for a person like me with absolute no sense of direction. a few comments then:

It has maintained good lock in my car (BMW 316) although it drops out now and again; it retains lock in less than a few seconds.

Route calculation (if I take a wrong turn..and I do often!) it replots in seconds.

Some of the routes it takes me are a bit strange but it geys me there.

The screen is reflective but directions from speakers are loud and clear. I have just fitted a Arkon WriteSHIELD Screen Protector and it has cut out reflections a lot; although it dulls the screen slighty.

The deep dashboard on the BMW makes mounting quite difficult; it is too far to see the screen. I have ended up using the windshield mount and let the base rest on the top of Dashboard (near to my instrument panel) close enough to read and stable.

I have found battery life ok (I get around 5 hours) but then again I'm forever fiddling with it!

Anyhow a wishlist (if TomTom is listening....)

How about bringing a basemount with a TMC receiver built in (hell put it in a carkit so give a commercial advantage)

Mentioned before but maybe bring out an upgrade so GO can be compatible with Niel's postcode program (I wonder if Royal Mail would be happy with that?!)

Better POIs

Quarterly downloads for updated maps(or subscription) again ANOTHER COMMERCIAL ADVANTAGE compared to yearly map updates at 100 quid a pop.

Option of automatically switching to night colours based on internal clock

Bring out a SharkFin BMW GPS external antenna to keep the boy racers happy...only kidding!

Well that's my lot; I hope you all enjoy using GO. Thumbs Up

I bought my TomTom Go from Amazon just over a week ago, and have found it really superb.

As you say the replot takes only seconds, and it goes get you to the destination.

I did have one rather odd routing when I travelled from my home in Skelmersdale to a built-in POI called Speke Hall in Liverpool.
The route got me on to the M58 near Skelmersdale, and it told me to exit at the first junction after joining the Motorway. This wold have been fine, because there is a route to Speke Hall using the road I was to join after leaving the M58.
The next instruction really fooled me, for it was for me to go back on to the M58 at the same junction I had just come off.
I wonder if anyone has had any similar experience.

Apart from that I find the Tom Tom Go brilliant and I shall be pleased when I can input my own POI's. I hope the beta testing is going OK.

Laurie

Hi laurie0236

On the A331/M3/J4 the map correctly plotted me to 2nd exit Rundabout to A331 but TomTom decided to verbally tell me to go to 3rd Exit.; which caused me to go round and round like a blind lemming.

However after that it got me to the door where I wanted to go.

Also today (being very cloudy and overcast down my way) TT would not lock onto more than 2-3 sats; losing tracking every few seconds.

Got zapped by a Gatso this weekend along M25 Temporary speed limit stretch this weekend; sticking 40mph all the way along; stupidly tried to overtake a slow moving car in front; and 'SMILE'...I for one can't wait for the Camera database POI ! :|

Also I have been thinking about mounting and accessory options for the GO;it being very popular I hope that third-party companies can design some cool bits for the beastie:

A stubbier mounting bracket(maybe even a cradle like they sell for mobile phones) to suit cars with flat dashboards to make TT more factory fit.

A screen filter/replacement cover with shroud kit

I suspect some clever cogs will make dashboard mounting adaptors so it will fit in a double DIN slot in a car (but this will obviously go againts the portability of TT.

Ah well; time to get on with some work; so I'll get lost Laughing Out Loud. Mr. Green

Hi all
I have had my go for a few weeks now, I was really happy with it up until today.
I found that the mount would not support the unit in the vertical axis.
On dismantling the mount I found that one of the thgumbscrews is being pulled apart when tightening. It looks like a design problem.
Any body else had a similar problem
